V10 Rx7?!?!?!?

Hello All

I am an avid rotary lover and always will be, but I have always been curious to know if anyone has done it, and if it can be done: Dropping a V10 in an FD.

I have been thinking and the only V10\'s i reckon would be available, are, the lambo gallardo v10, audi r8 v10 (which are practically the same), an BM M5/M6 v10, or the more obvious (and cheapest) a Dodge Viper v10.

Any thoughts, ideas, and info would be great, as this will be a life project. LOL

I would say that the BMW V10 would fit with some work. I know that you can fit both the LS V8 and a BMW V10 to a E36 M3.  I\'d ask the engine swap guru himself. Craig Taylor.

I thought the BMW V10\'s were quite wide, length wise you could fit a V12 in, theoretically, a few people have done straight 6\'s. The American V\'s are usually much slimmer than Germans.

I know it may be wishful thinking, but with the barn door engineering from the yanks, especially Dodge, it would in theory be less s##t to deal with than a complicated german lump. Also it is slimmer than the M lump.

Does anyone know if its been done???

If budget was no issue then the cosworth V10 race engine that was on their stand at time attack at Oulton was tiny !

A 26B engine would have the same number of combustion chambers as a V12 for the same displacement as a skyline GTR RB26 engine, shame its only good for 1,600bhp really *sigh*

not sure why you\'d want the Dodge V10, that really is an agricultural lump of pushrodded pig iron.
 
the Audi V10 \'only\' puts out 390 lbs/ft. the LS2 does that out of the box and is cheaper and lighter, if you want a piston swap an LS block is the way to go.

You\'re comparing apples an oranges here, the V8 is bound to make more torque as it\'s longish stroke and can\'t rev, where as the Audi V10 is smaller displacement flatter stroke and revs to 8200 to make more power and actually sounds like it was invented in this century.
 
I\'ve driven a Gallardo and the engine in that was great (Audi/Lambo shared platform) and infinitly better than any of the LS engines (IMO, the whole of America will pretty much disagree with me) so far but in terms of expense I think unless you\'re minted you\'ll be looking elsewhere.
 
Another though is the 5.0 V12 in the old BMW 8 series with a few tweeks that will get you well over 400hp and will be a darn sight cheaper than some of the other options if it will fit.

i am in the middle of fitting a v10 m5 motor itno a e46 m3, and its very big and complicated, i dont see any gains over a ls2 other than "ITS A V10"    its bigger,longer,heavier,more money,harder to tune, but it will sound good !!!!, a viper motot in a supra would be cool,

Yeah I see all of your points, but I was tjinking of a V10 cos I dont think its ever been done, everyone drops v8\'s in. and I didn\'t think a v12 would fit because it was too long. I know that you can fit a straight 6 under a rex bonnet, but I wasn\'t sure about a v12.

Does anyone know if that has been done before?

Of course a V12 would fit, just depends how much you\'re willing to cut into the firewall :Giggle
