Excuse me, if I have missed this while using the search, but bear with me, being a stupid newbie, but Ive just bought a fd near London, and done all the usual checks, and the engine had good compression etc etc. The oil was nice and light coloured brown, plenty of antifreeze in the water, and the oil cap was clean and not wiped looking to hide anything. I drove her home near 470 miles, and Ive noticed there are small traces of white mayo around the inside of the oil cap and down the oil cap funnel. Not alot admittely, but on a std piston engine, thats blown head gasket time. Now Im panicing, although the car used a wee drop of oil (qtr of a litre), she used no water, and the gauge sat perfectly in the middle the whole way home. Theres no bubbles when I open the water cap, when running,(as per the champagne test I saw on here), and not using any real amount of water.............. So any advice would be gratefully accepted. PS. The car came with receipts for a full engine rebuild at Jimmys 18 months and 6k earlier, so paid accordingly, so would hate to think Ive got a goosed engine for my trouble :Hammer

a touch of mayo in the oil is normal ;)

one of the oil breather pipes is plumbed back in, or someting like that :D

If it\'s just around the filler cap / neck no need to worry - it\'s condensation from the air!!
Work hard, play hard house :D

Cheers lads. Thinking I might disconnect this pipe and put a catch can between it and the block, to see if this helps. Wouldn\'t have thought the mayo gathering up inside the engine would do it much good.

The mayo wont gather in the engine - just at the filler neck.  It comes and goes with the weather.  As the guys say, its normal on an FD.
