Scary moment

Nipped to chip shop yesterday and on the way back came up behind a slower car, knocked down into third so I was into boost, put me foot down to overtake, the car accelerated in its normal manner apart from what I can only describe as a kind of torque steer, it seemed to slue from side to side, I really had to hold on to the wheel and concentrate on getting through the gap, it didn\'t break traction and the roads were completely dry, the car is single turbo and running approx 380 fwhp on low boost. It is 90% polybushed.
Is there anyone out there that can diagnose this bloody scary problem.
Should be going to the ring in September so need to get it delt with before then.

The road is straight, flat and generally quite good, been up it a thousand times in alsorts of vehicles and never experienced anything like that before.

When did you last have the car aligned?
Basics would be diff, tyre pressures, binding brakes, and alignment.

mmm good point, I know tyre pressures are correct, brakes are cool but when you say diff, what exactly could be the issue with that?

Broken powerplant frame? Mine used to flap about like a witches t!t when that broke

Could there have been some spilt diesel on the road or something else?

What is and where do I find the powerplant frame? It did feel like the diff was not actually connected to anything!

Don\'t think it was diesel, it didn\'t break traction.

Powerplant frame is the sort of ladder trelis thing that connects the diff nose to the gearbox tail along the spine of the car. It frequently cracks and even splits off the two prongs where the diff bolts to it. The diff won\'t like fall off or anything but there\'ll certainly be a lot less holding it stable if the PPF has split

As for the diff - no idea, just throwing ideas around - drivetrains and engines are voodoo I\'m afraid.
I\'d get the geo checked out first though.

Just checked the pff and all seems well although been for a spin in it and noticed when driving in a straight line the steering wheel is not centralised which again points towards geometry. Cheers for the input evereyone.

Is that because all the MR2s would have crashed miles back before they even got to the road? :Giggle

The MR2\'s would never have made it to the road in the first place, they\'d all be parked up with broken alternators full of water and oil, and top mounts rusted through :mad:
