Hi, I havnt long bought a 95\' UK FD and I have a few things which are bothering me.....

When the car is idleing the engine seems to stutter.  It shakes the car slightly and the exhust makes a quiet pop noise? I thought it was the spark plugs but they are only 4kmiles old.

Also there is a knocking which seems to come from the left rear suspension when I drive over a bump or drain.  It sounds like when you hit a pot hole but not the wheel banging (if that makes sense?!)  I had it up on a ramp this mornig and there was no sign of anything loose?

When I got back from the garage and stopped the car, I got out and for quite a while I could hear a lot of bubbling.  Opened the engine and it seemed to come from everywhere.  I dont have a turbotimer but I hadnt been ragging the car?

Oh and just one more while im at it! Is the uk car suppost to have the middle brake light wired up? I have all the fittings but no bubs or wires?

Any help/advice would be very much appreaciated!

Cheers

Hi mate,
I\'ve not had mine long either and hope you get someone more capable than me replying to correct/add to this, but I\'ll give it a shot.

The bubbling sounds a little familiar.  After it\'s MOT a couple of weeks ago, I had a simialar sound for some time after switch off.  I had the bonnet up to let the engine cool and the noise seemed to be coming from the cooling system - don\'t reckon it\'s a problem as it was a hot day and the car had been sat idling with the bonnet down for a reasonable while...  no air getting in the cool the engine down. - the only time I\'ve heard it though...

I think the fuel pump is the left hand side of the boot tray.  If the cover isn\'t fixed properly that could be what you\'re hearing and you\'d not see it outside.

As for the centre brakelight.  I\'d be surprised if that wasn;t meant to be wired - would seem very odd to put it in and not hook it up.

Well, that\'s probably enough of me thinking I know what I\'m talking about, LOL!

Best thing to do is get the car up to someone who knows about rx7\'s and get it checked out fully, but until then just check all oil levels, water, coolant just to be on the safe side. Injector cleaner too would help just to smooth out the car.

Right, thanks for your advice.

First thing I did was to have a look at that fuel pump but unfortunately it was fitted nicely so it cant be that.  Was told the otherday about a woman who had the whole rear of her car rebuilt as there was a knocking, cost her quite a bit and was still there - turned out to be a stone caught in the wheel arch - doh!

I would like to have a full specialist service as soon as I can afford one.  Is there a website for WGT as well? (will give them a call when I get home anyway) - Is that the best place for me to go (im in Kidderminster - Worcestershire)

As for the injector cleaner - im a complete novice. Is it something I can do myself and can I get it anywhere (like motorworld?)

Thanks again 4 ur help:wave

Hi there, you say you\'re in Kiddiminister??

Which i think is south of Wolves, right the closest expert will be Pip at Wgt engineering which is based in Northwich.

To get there you would get the M6 north, and follow all the way up till you get to Junction 19 from where there are signs for Northwich, you would come off the M6 j19 and take a left at the tpo of the leaving bay and follow signs for the "salt museum" - the salt museum is opposite WGT engineering.

Give Pip a ring on the number i gave you earlier hes very friendly and helpful and knows his stuff, only prob is they are booked up at the mo so might take a few weeks to get in:(

I\'m there on the 4th June for remap, and i\'m quite careful who i go to with this.....

hi just curious at how much a remap is costing as bought my first rx7 at the weekend (and loving it )but was told it could do with being mapped as never been done to the car

Check your MAP sensor. Its usually located on the drivers side (at least on Euro and US spec FDs) and has 2 connections. The lower vacuum line tends to pop off and will give such symptoms. You may also want to check/feel the same hose going behind the UIM, maybe it got disconnected on that side.

The sound from the rear suspension are usually pillowball bushings. Expensive little buggers. They cost me about $350 (6 bushings) from the states + $75 for labor.

It can also be your toe-links. Have the car lifted and rear suspension checked out.

Great info, cheers guys.  Little worried about pillowball bushes.  I still have the car under parts warranty so I hope I will be able to get them done under that.

Will deff give WGT a call - didnt get time last night. Love the kit by the way.

Im not very technical but I do have a hose loose (or not attached at the other end! ) which I noticed last night - It comes from the right hand side of the airbox and goes underneath where it is not connected - I have a pic so I will post it when I get home.

Thanks for the directions, no\'s & advice - right where is my bank managers number, need to add to the loan!! :D

That hose is supposed to be like that.

Did you check the MAP sensor connection ?

Ricco_04

I have had a very long mooch round the engine bay (even cleaning a few things up :D  ) and have had a good check of everything I can get to.

I can not find anything loose except the cable which actuates the throttle for the cruise control, which had come off at one point  (wondered why that stopped working!   )

Thanks for the hose info, not worrying about that now but I think this is going to be a tad expensive to make me totally happy! (im such a sod!)

Interesting! I have a \'94 which is not standard by any means in the suspension department, and I also have a knocking noise from the same area. Cured it all be it briefly by finding a loose bolt on the rear strut brace. Tightened this and the noise went away, only to return. Cant find anything now that is loose and to make matters worse the noise has gone intermittant!

However check your rear strut brace fixings!!??

Ian,

I actually managed to speak to the guy who owned the car before (nice chap) and he said that he had noticed the same and took in the car and was given 2 options - replace the bushes or replace the suspension arms.

Suspension arms being more expensive he did what we all would do and have the bushes done and the noise went away.

Not sure if this would apply to you as you say your suspension is on the modded side.

Will check my rear strut brace when I can (going on holiday soon! woo hoo!)       Thanks again :cheers

Not sure really dude.

Got GAB coil overs with RE-Amemiya trailing arms and everything seems fine with the componentry. Drove to RS and back via Cheltenham from Southampton and didnt have any knocking noses at all! Even when it is there its not particularly load, just anoying!!

Handling of the car is fantastic as I found at Japfest the other week! LOL!
