Hi all

As the title says. I have fitted an Apexi Power FC to my RX7 (92) that i bought from Carl Hayward. I followed the instructions to the letter (adjusting the idle screw etc) and it runs smoother, however, when warmed up, if i put my foot down for some brisk acceleration and i get boost cut/fuel cut.

I pressume this is due to the settings on the apexi, but can someone tell me what the boost settings should be at?

It is running the base map and car has induction, exhaust and that\'s about it! so really, there should not be any cut with the Apexi?

I know with my old EVO\'s this was often down to a sticking actuator, but it seems to be a bit of a coincidence that this is happening only since fitting the Apexi.

Any clues/advice are appreciated.

HAve you got a commander, post your values for the boost settings, your exhaust could be causing the boost to spike past the values set hence the fuel cut .
In any case get your car mapped asap otherwise you might say bye bye to your engine real soon, WGT is your nearest rotary tuner

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I was rather hoping that the Apexi Power FC would make the car safer really as the base map is meant to be fine for the minimal mods i have.

Anyway...Yep, got the commander, the boost settings are showing as:

1. Pr 0.80kg/cm2  56%
   Sc 0.70kg/cm2  64%
2. Pr 0.90kg/cm2  62%
   Sc 0.80kg/cm2  70%

This is the base map so should be ok?? but am willing to change them if needed.

I am meant to be booking a day at WGT soon for a major service and health check etc, but am undecided about what to do yet.

I keep hearing/reading so many stories about engines going bang on the RX7, regardless of being re-built or set up properly, i am not sure whether i want that constantly lurking in the back of my mind , or whether i should let someone else worry about \'what might happen\'

Anyhow, in the meantime, any advice on how i can make the old girl happier with the boost, is appreciated

Cheers

well you dont know if the base map is ok for your car, every car is different, you can turn down the boost duty so it wont hit boost cut. Try settings below in the meantime before getting it mapped at WGT, once mapped you feel a lot better, PIP maps on the safe side so you should have no worrie sonce done
1. Pr 0.80kg/cm2 50%
Sc 0.70kg/cm2 60%
2. Pr 0.90kg/cm2 50%
Sc 0.80kg/cm2 60%

ok, thanks for that, i\'ll give it a go tonight. ;)

I reset the ecu to base map,but also did mention that you should be careful and get it mapped to suit your car, please do not drive it hard until Pip has mapped it or you\'ll be looking for an engine next.
The base map is only suitable for a stock car really, and even then it might need mapping to be sure that it is safe.
With your level of mods it REALLY does need mapping!

Hi Carl

Yes,advise noted, thanks.I havent been driving it hard, only round the block a few times (not registered yet). I was just suprised when I get boost cut the first time I gave it moderate throttle.

I will get it mapped by Pip eventually when I have saved up enough cash for all the jobs on it,I just thought that with the minor mods on mine, thf base map should be ok (research says it\'s ok on standard twins with induction and exhaust and an uprated cooler).

Will the commander settings recommended in this thread Allow it  to run safely without boost cut for now??

Thanks again for your advice Carl,I know you are a busy man.

Regards

The settings given on the duty cycle of the solenoid will mean less boost being made therefore should mean you wont hit the fuel cut settings

You mentioned exhaust a couple of times - assume you are 3" straight through?  It will be spiking like a ....... with no cat in the way to slow it down - that\'ll be triggering the cut in all likelihood.
