Nigel You can be my camera man if i dont manage to construct a alternative camera mount on my passenger seat. Damm these suction mount bans!!.
Got the car back from Whytes today with a clean bill of health and a new shiny ( well matt black) radiator support bracket.  Almost finished waxing her shes very very shiny even got out the touchup paint for my few marks.
Have a drive with a IAM instructor on thursday should be fun!

MrHanky

Hi guys,

Yep the Shell garage at LE9 6QD will be easiest to use.  If you are all staying at Barcelo hotel then its literally 5 minutes from there (left out of hotel, 2nd left and stay on that road until you see it on your left).  Also easy to get to Mallory from there.  It\'s by no means just down the road from Mallory but it is the easiest to get to.
Alternatively if you don\'t want to do that run at lunch, there is a BP down the road.

I need to get checking fluids etc, and maybe have one more go at fitting bucket seat and stupid steering wheel boss :)

See you all on Saturday

Mark

Quote from: Casey;708548Chris, closest Shell garage I can find, coming from a northerly direction, would be this one;

Shell Service Station, Groby Road, Glenfield, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE3 8GJ

or this one, about 8 miles from the hotel - looks like you cold swing by this one on your way to the hotel to "top off". This is also possibly the closest one to refill during the trackday lunch break.

Shell Service Station, Coventry Road, Broughton Astley, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE9 6QD

Maybe someone more local might know better - MrHanky lives very close to Mallory!

Casey

Thx Mark, you can point me to the nearer BP garage to top-up during the lunchbreak!

Weather is supposed to be mostly dry tomorrow, so here\'s hoping for a correct weather prediction for once.
Typically I have left everything until the last minute, so will be checking the car tonight.

See you all tomorrow, bright and early :)

Well, despite the heavy showers, everyone I spoke to seemed to have enjoyed themselves. I do hope that, after a long day, everyone got home safely. A big thankyou to everyone for supporting this event. It was not only a great time out on track, but the social time at the hotel the evening the night before (and at breakfast) made the outing even more enjoyable.

Special thanks to; well everyone really! ....but I must mention;

Hypothermia - for your massive help (and tools) to change my front brakepads in the hotel carpark before dinner.

C J R - for my first (yes, I know, I know, it\'s sooooooo embarrassing!) passenger ride in an FD. One reason I\'ve resisted so long is that I love the FD\'s so much I\'ve been close to buying one the past, but my lovely wife wouldn\'t entertain the idea...... I\'ve been trying to keep away from them, because the urge aways returns! Thanks Chris, I think my smile said it all!

Crissy - for your infectious Italian passion & enthusiasm (and the pit storage tent!), plus being "spanner monkey number 3" during my brakepad change.

Shaunwil - for coming along to be a part of the day, despite not being able to actively participate. Fingers crossed here that when they strip down your engine it\'ll be a simple repair job and he\'ll be back out on track soon.

Will66 - for the entertainment value on track, and you get the prize for your "pointing the wrong way" moment in the Esses! Nice recovery Will, you even managed to keep it on the tarmac!

MrHanky - as a newcomer to the trackday "regulars". It\'s meeting and chatting to MRC members like you at these events that makes it so enjoyable. Good to see your Gen2 car out on track too. Hope to see you again at another day out.

Madder - for making it through the day unscathed. We had a worrying few minutes in the pit area during a red flag when everyone in our group returned, except you. We were having visions of your RX-8 in various stages of derangement going through our minds as time (and a recovery truck) went by. We were mightily relieved when the track reopened to see you back out, having simply come straight back into the pitlane on the red flag, eager to get straight back out!

Sicknote - for bringing along your awesome "kermit" FD. In the dry, even on slighty dodgy tryes, that car is fantastic to watch on track, and left me standing. But it made my day because, in the wet, I could hang on to you for lap after lap. Getting that awesome (800bhp?) power down with iffy tyres in the rain took some skill. I hope I might have some in-car video to post up later.

To the club members who came along to watch, some of whom took some truely professional looking photos - sorry I didn\'t meet or introduce myself to you all properly. I think some of you, in retrospect, may have enjoyed the home made apple cake I was offering around at the time?

and last, but by NO means least,

to Clive & Lisa - for making the whole thing possible through running this fantastic club plus the enthusiastic support and time you put in the attend these trackdays.

For those of you who never done a trackday in your rotary, I urge you to do it at least once. It doesn\'t matter if you, or your car, isn\'t the fastest. I\'m no-where near the quickest out there, but it doesn\'t matter in the slightest. The adrenaline, and satisfaction of getting nice, smooth lap is just so good. Doesn\'t matter if your car is standard, or modded, if you\'ve got a passion for your rotary then you owe it to your car to treat it to a trackday at least once during it\'s time in your care :)

I hope to see the usual familiar faces, and some new ones (you\'ll be made most welcome) at the next event at Oulton Park on November 17th (a Wednesday). Watch this space too, as it\'s a long time bewteen now and November, so an "unoffical" additional event might just creep into the calendar in September......:D

Roll on Rotorstock - see most of you again there - lookin\' forward to it!

Just wanted to say thank you to my fellow trackheads for a great day yesterday. I didn\'t particularly like the circuit but the company more than made up for it and as a matter of fact, although I ended up doing almost 140 miles round a circuit that I didn\'t like much (!!) I actually enjoyed the banter "in the pits" more.

As already said the weather wasn\'t the best but just as I gave up on having sunshine, I ventured out in the rain and...  magic! the Caterhams (more annoying than Vuvuzelas) abandoned the track and I had Mallory almost all for myself. That was a lot better and at that point I started to enjoy it.  :D

Again, I am ever so pleased with my Federals which proved to be awesome sticky tyres with amazing grip in torrential rain despite being brand new. Amazingly, even for a big whimp like me, I was able to carry a little bit more speed in the wet with these on than I did in the dry with my normal road tyres which are from the UHP market segment!!

Chris, they were even better on the way home as the car felt as if it was gliding on the road. If the wear rate was better I would have them on all the time as the trip back on the A507 was just magic through twisties and roundabouts, if you know what I mean.

Thanks again for the great company and the awesome pictures! I\'ll see you all at Rotorstock 7 where I am planning to get to grips with the drifting... well, not literally, but you know what I am trying to say...  :D

Well Glad you all enjoyed it well most of you by the sounds of it.
Still a little gutted i had to bow out of this one, but unfrortunatly August is an expensive month for me with insurance, MOT, road TAX, plus other things need paying for.
But its must made me evben more eager to get back out on track now.

will hopefully see some of you at a track sooner (September) rather than later (November)

Was a really good day. Great to get out on track in the passenger seat of quite a few cars and enjoy the weekend. Even without a car its an enjoyable day out.

Big thanks to everyone really. Hopefully it won\'t be much major with the FD\'s engine and it will be back very soon. With a bit of porting thrown in :D

The best ride went to Nick of MOT in his track prepped MX5 in very wet conditions. The way he drives shows we need a lot more practice on track before anywhere near the limit ! The speed he carried through corners and drifting out of the hairpin perfect every time is just amazing !

As the point has been said even if you don\'t have a silly spec car or even want to run on a track then come as a passenger. You get all the thrills of a trackday to give you an idea if you want to come along and take part.

Purely for reference puposes (I had no way of chacking my times live during the day, which is not allowed anyway), post-analysis of my in-car video shows my laptimes in the dry (no traffic) were typically 62-64 seconds. In the wet, typically, 65-67 seconds, but with a top laptime for the day overall of 61 seconds (in the WET!). Weird, but the reason was NickD in my car giving some great advice, and with Sicknote in front of me as a "target" to aim for. It\'s amazing when the adrenaline of the chase kicks in, worth 4-6 seconds a lap it seems! :o

I\'ll post up youtube footage of some laps as as soon as I get a moment.
