It sure does. Good tip. Let us know if it\'s done the job OK.

Indeed it has - filled it with 15L of fuel and primed the surge tank and ZERO leaks :)

:3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh soon :)

Hi guys, recently dropped the tank from \'JAZ\' after feeling a load of crud on the top round filler tube area.  Have cleaned up, rubbed down, primer and top coated.  Also took opportunity to check body out for corrosion and anything else - found one small area for plating (yet to do) but have treated and undersealed all other areas (plenty of fotos attached).
Right my question is - whilst it is out, might as well clean the internal of any s**t (that\'s silt by the way) before putting it back in so what is the best and easiest way to empty the residue of petrol from the tank - does this involve removal of sensor/other pipe/hoses?

The tank looks Good to Go Cliff, another problem out of the way. The S3 has a drain plug but i seem to remember Mark (MKP 490P) saying he thought the S2 tank didn\'t have one?

So a quick but gentle swirl around in the tank with clean petrol, pour it back out the filler and away? Gentle because I see a difference now to the S3 tank. We\'ve got the 3 dip pipes into the top going in via a removable plate, - yours are separate push - ons. Well one dip pipe on the S3 has a strainer on the end for bits of rust. Since you don\'t seem to have access to yours that\'s why I\'d say be gentle with the swirling. Don\'t want to stir up rust flakes into the strainer, if one is present. Also the sender might not like vigorous whirlpools going past while you swirl?

And don\'t forget a new fuel filter for what they cost - maybe in 1000 miles when the dirt has settled out?

That\'s all my thoughts.....any others?

Good thinking batman.  Can concur the S2 doesn\'t have a drain plug (bit of a bummer really) and I have been draining from the filler but there seems to be a fair amount (perhaps 3 lts or so) which doesn\'t want to come out - is there a reservoir of some description which could prevent this? (I remember the Triumph Herald had a spare tank with a manual override handle although I never had to use it).

Tank shape probably never intended the last dregs to come out via the filler. A manual sucky pump? Turkey baster with the bottom filler connection taken off?

Looks like a big Turkey as well. Don\'t oven it Cliff.

Quote from: Ian65;699085if the inside of the tank is rusty and all the s*** is going down your lines then, yeah, coat the inside of the tank but if the inside of the tank is good and it\'s just got a pinhole or is leaking from the seam, just give it a real heavy coat of POR15 rust preventative paint from the outside ( flood the seam where it\'s opened up and this stuff sets like rock)
and it\'ll do the job for less than half the price of the internal coating stuff.

Hi Ian, I was down @ Stuarts (Tamworth) about 5 weeks ago and I believe you were there earlier in the week.  He said you got his tank & sender/pump?

I picked up his doors, interior & lord knows what else but what a fortunate find - completely filled the back of my Rangie.  He tells me that the \'shell\' has since been towed away.

Also told me he will probably be getting rid of his white S3 (perhaps this year) to help fund his VW restoration.

I did indeed have his tank and pump. I\'ve since had a bonnet off him too.
I\'ve gotta say that Stu was a top bloke, great to deal with and his white s3 was a nice car.
Did he show you his Ferrari 328?  The most gorgeous, immaculate car I\'ve seen in many a year.

CHC (RIP)

Definitely a top bloke and so dedicated and meticulous when seeing a job through.  Didn\'t have the Ferrari there when we went - would have liked to have seen it but he has sent me photos of a Mclaren M6 GTR which he built and has since sold and sent to Italy.

I would consider taking his S3 off him later on knowing his commitment to detail and perfection.  Apparently the shell which he stripped and sold on was in better condition than his S3 - he did say had the donor car come along first he would have restored the cars the other way round.  In fact the areas of the donor car which I saw was in better condition than JAZ but hey life goes on.
