Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;697938I don\'t know if I can say who has it, but trust me the shaft exhists and theoretical hp is 1000. Wouldn\'t be highly revving but would have huge amounts of torque. I will ask if I can say who has it and then we all
might learn some more about it.
All I can say is it is huge! And I would be honoured to seeif it worked.

Why is the power so low for a 6 rotor? Is it due to the fact that it can\'t rev that high? I know you can get 900bhp from a 13b, so about 450bhp per rotor...

If you work out the hp per cc, on an n/a engine. 13B = 1300, cc max hp on a pp engine around 300bhp. so 4.3 cc = 1 hp or 1cc = 0.23076923 hp

A six rotor is 3900cc\'s, 3900 x 0.23076923 = 899.999997 hp

I dont know how to calculate hp with turbos but do you see the theory behind it?

a rotory engine this big wouldnt be able to rev really high i dont think due to amount of rotating mass, even though it would have to be balanced etc. it is interesting to think how this engine would work.

One thing is for sure, THIS ENGINE WOULD BE LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote from: captainbizzaro;697927Sad thing is the 1 rotor is probably pokier than my 12a lol :2Rolleyes
get yourself some peri. ports, would be very potent then, or buy the elford turbo engine i have in the back garden, 150hp.

Quote from: m1tch;697950Single rotor units are used in aviation, if you go check out rotary aviation there are kits to build a single rotor - I guess for microlites etc I think I saw them on there, basically the kit was selling a custom counterweight to balance the rotor etc :)
From talking to friends in the army, i have been told and have seen on technology programmes that the spy drones use rotary engines due to their small and powerful nature. I just didnt know if they used a 6B or a Norton ....el motorbike engine.

Quote from: turbotoaster;697925you have held a 6 rotor shaft?? where? as until now noone in the world has made one or even seen one run so id be very interested in where you found this

I have seen and held this 6 rotor  shaft and can confirm it does exist.

I posted an article on those engines a while back from The Engineer !

Would have thought the 6 rotor would be fine for high reving. Would expect the rotor to be running on bearings on every middle plate like the 2 piece rotor.

when i say high reving i mean 10, 000 rpm. an engine on this scale would not need to rev that high as it would decimate most other engines/cars on tickover:yes
but im sure that if this engine gets built it will revv to as high as possible but revs are not everyhing, it can also be how quick it goes through them, with extremely light rotors

Grant Monkhouse

whereabouts are those posts? i would like to have a flick through

i assume your on about the famous hurley 6 rotor that was going around a while ago, im sure they still have the shaft for it, but as far as im aware the engine never ran so at the moment we have to assume the engine is theory, id imagine they never found an application where it someone would want it

the hurley one is the picture i have seen, but seen as they have never built a four rotor a i doubt that hurleys 6 rotor was real. the hp figures etc are theory but the e shaft is real, hopefully will be able to say who has it by tommorrow as it is not for me to pass on things unless the owner is ok with it.
as for an application to use the engine, what rotory vehicle has a huge engine bay? and is the size of a skyline? and i would want this to be used in drag racing if i paid for the build as whoever you lined up against would be terrified by it spiiting flames

very good article, lubricant free rotory, would be nice to know what materials theyare going to be using

There is a 1.25HP model rotary engine - 5cc I believe - revs to 17,000 rpm - that\'s a single rotor engine:

(replace .... with - well you get the idea)

This engine has powered a UAV craft !

os racing i think it is that make nitro rc car engines also do a rotary engine for rc planes etc...

Grant Monkhouse

Quote from: turbotoaster;697909theres no such thing as a 6 rotor at the moment, noone has produced a crank for it yet, but it is possible to make

single rotor engines are used alot, they use them in small unmanned planes, they are also air cooled

here is a single rotor in a lawnmower, i think it made 110bhp in the end

Carl Hayward has the six rotor e shaft, will try and get some photos of it when I come back from holiday.
