Now the weather is getting better and I\'ve started taking the fd out i\'ve noticed that the oil pressure is very high, off the clock on one trip so drove slowly. Checked the levels and these about 3/4 full can it be a fault with the sender as the engine has only done 3k miles since rebuild last year.

Car sits for 3 -4 weeks without being started and there is some smoke on startup but soon dissapears.

I take it you are using standard pressure gauge?

Dont worry about too much oil pressure....the worry is if it is low ;)

mine is some times ( most the time low ). The standard pressure guage is very low on idle but i dont trust that gauge so i have a defi gauge. on idle it reads just under 1bar....... is that too low?. on a drive is is about 4 or 5 bar.

nope user and aux one. Have noticed that it may be that the 0 point is off as once the engine is started it sits high then doesn\'t drop.

Where is the send located so I can have a look over the weekend?

Just an update as last night with the ignition on and the engine off, got in the car closed the door and the oil pressure rose from 0 to 1.5bar now this is with the engine off. So thought that can\'t be right so opened and close the door again, same thing oil pressure rose from 0 to 1.5 then back to 0. So my fears that the engine has issues were wrong as the oil pressure guage is obviously broken :)

Don\'t forget that when the oil is cold it is thicker and so will cause a higher pressure reading than when its warm - got worried about that when I got my mx5 as the oil pressure was high lol.

Sounds like there might be some short circuiting with the interior lights maybe?
