Anyone with a tubby II - I need to ask a favour.

I need a closeup picture of where the CAS plug joins the engine loom - it\'s a white 4 way plug/socket pair. I need to see which colour wire on the engine loom goes to which connector pin on the plug (so picture from the back of the plug.

When I took them apart to repair them - I went by the manual to put them back in - but I am just wondering if that is correct - so ideally I need a closeup piccy

Many thanks...

What\'s CAS, and where can I find it to get a pic for you? (lol)

Prof

Sorry - Acronyms - lol

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor - if you look at the front cover of the engine - then coming out of it on the right hand side as you look at it, at an angle is the CAS - it\'s got a big round cover on it - normally black.  It has a short length of cable with 4 wires coming out of it going into a 4 way plug - that then joins the main wiring loom - it\'s the back of the connector on the wiring loom I need to get a look at - if that makes sense.

Piccy of the CAS attached...

Pic one:

Pic 2 (sorry it\'s blurry, couldn\'t get it to focus, even on macro mode - guess just too dark outside and too close)!

Prof

Brilliant - that\'s good enough to work out what goes where !

Thanks.

I have had issues with the wiring loom colours before - the pdf\'s are US - which is fine most of the time - but I\'ve had issues with the wire colours being wrong before and had to resort to ECU pins - which are always going to be right.

At least this way I can eliminate this as a possible cause for it not firing - or of course fix it !

PS - too dark now to see, so this will be a job for tomorrow - and hopefully better weather !

I know mate, I was doing my alternator belt in the rain! Turns out the BMW on I put on there the other day WASN\'T appreciated! Got a new one from Halfrauds today.

Oh for a large heated garage huh?

Prof

too right :)

I\'m just coming to the end of the full engine rebuild and re install - since end of October - and I think I\'ve lost more than 60% of the days to crap weather and freezing cold.

I shall ask Santa for a new garage :)

Ask your wallet too ;)

Bad weather sucks. I\'ve lost loads of days to it like you. Others to, erm, recovering from the night before! lol

Glad you\'ve almost finished though!

Prof

This was what I had for my wiring colours:

Prof

Looks like I\'ve found the problem then :)

Where I have the Red wire - you have Blue - so those 2 are swapped

Also the Green / White wires are swapped.

No wonder it\'s not firing !

Well done - post up if it works when you change them over!

Prof

Bingo :cheers:Party

Although I had to shut it off after 2 minutes as it was p1$$ing oil out from the blank offs in the sandwhich plate.

So I\'ve had to put some ptfe around them and tighten them right up - two were only finger lose so likely it\'s them leaking.

Now of course the battery and my starter pack are running out of juice so it won\'t quite catch. On charge again now waiting for another attempt.

Many thanks for getting that pic to me - I\'ll have to buy you a beer for your trouble :)

Call it quits dude, the amount you post helpful stuff up for me whenever I need something!

Good work anyway though - looking forward to seeing your car sometime this year!

Dave, that was the main cause for my FC coming to a halt, that plug had one of the red wires broken off. The AA man only found it was that when he noticed I never had an RPM signal on my Datalogit (just so happened I had my wife bring me my laptop to see what was what) One new plug later and not one bit of hassle from it. This was also the cause of a few hesitations, the odd cut out and off course the final coming to a halt bit. Worth everyone checking their plugs as although mine looked to be good, heat and corrosion had taken its toll and the plug wires easily broke off.

All 4 wires had splits in the insulation - and I remembered that yours gave you problems Pete - so that\'s why I took the pins out and heatshrinked them - problem is I didn\'t take a pic first, and the wiring colours in the PDF must be for US cars - as they don\'t match our loom colours at all.

Just glad Papercutout has the same car virtually ;)

Got to get a battery for it now - my old one has had it - not bad for 5+ years I suppose - it\'s had a hard life with many crankings.
