Anyone looking for some early season trackday action at a new venue? This is NOT part of the planned MRC trackdays series, but for anyone looking for some cheap fun at a new location, have a look

HERE

Cost £89 for a full day, but MRC FULL members can get a £10 discount code if you PM me!

This day forms part of a 12 to 18 month process to transform Blyton from what it was into a quality motorsport venue. The lease is now in hands of professional management and so anyone driving on this day will be in the vanguard of developing the track.
For anyone who has been to Blyton before or is looking at Google maps, it is not as it was, the whole site has been cleared, tyres, soil, debris and the Stock Car oval, so the runway is back to the full width.
The route of the track is not final, but the basic layout that is currently planned will be that the hanger, which is the white building on the left, is the garage, service, pit area. The track will run up the perimeter road, across the top of the runway, down the far side perimeter track turning left at the bottom and then left again through what was the Stock Car track then up the runway, turning right just after the hanger and then back round. "Features" will be added to this and a good base reference would be Snetterton meets Bedford.
Currently already in place is a Race Control building and briefing room, which was a custom made Twickenham ticket office, temporarily there are a couple of containers for putting stuff in under cover that you don\'t want rolling around in your car and the hanger acts as an under cover service area. Hot food will be available on site and naturally there will be medical cover etc.
The majority of the track is tarmac, there are some rough areas, but obviously the track will be routed to miss them, and is 10 times better than Finmere. Once the layout is proved then new tarmac will be going down, a local Navvy has already said he has 800 tons of tarmac he over ordered for a job up the road. Safety wise there is one piece of Armco but other than that, if you leave the back stuff the only danger is a couple of carrots.
As an indication of what the plans are, the owner has been working two and a half years on the planning permission which is now in place. I think this is very exciting, a motorsport venue that is bucking the current trend to have more and more restrictions imposed, build eco towns on them or complain that they are not "green" and to be able to influence at an early stage how this develops is fantastic. Who knows, it could end up with "Rotary Corner!"

The noise limit is 105dB.

I probably can\'t make this myself, but thought there might be others would might be interested in this new venue. Post up any questions here, and let me know if you intend to go along, so I can gauge interest.

Well this is only 1hr away from me so exciting news.
Im interested in some track work but im a total novice.
Also the only car i have for track is a stock Mazda MX5, good for learning i guess.
Any idea what the safty regs are for an open top car ? and do they run novice sessions ?

Cheers Steve

Steve, if you do go along I\'d like to know what you think of the track and facilities. As a "developing" track it\'s a lot cheaper than the established ones, so we might want to add it to the MRC trackday series next year!

Jon, not a problem, the whole idea of trackdays is that you can take them at whatever pace you like, and drive as much or as little as you like, subject to the maximum number of cars on circuit at one time - which the marshalls will regulate.

As this is so close to you, and it\'s one of the cheaper events on the calaedar, plus it\'s run by the guys at MazdaOnTrack, you should find it a very enjoyable day. The briefing at the start of the event will tell you how the day is run, and will be followed by some "sighting laps" behind a pace car to show you the track and lines. There\'s usually some tuition sessions available at ~£25 for 20 minutes if you want some advice from a qualified instructor.

If Steve goes along as well, then I\'m sure he\'ll be able to give some advice too!

Hi Everybody,

I\'m Nick and and I help run Mazda on Track.

Blyton is an exciting opportunity as most places are having more and more restrictions placed on them or threats of housing development, so to find somewhere going the other way is great.

Steve, MX-5\'s are a perfect track car even in standard form. Light on tyres and brakes and engines that just go on and on providing they have oil in them. Open cars are fine, all drivers require a crash helmet, obviously, and arms and legs covered, but other than that and a driving licence you are good to go.
There will only 14 cars out at once at most and while we don\'t have a specific novice session planned the track will not be crowded and we have instruction available, even helmet hire.

Jon, Casey is absolutely right, you go at your pace and the one you are comfortable with. You will probably find you are quicker than you think as well.
:)

Right Boys and Girls, £3,000 of cones and curbs arrived today and a fleet of Road Sweepers on Monday, probably the first time Blyton has been swept in 30 years. There is also a team armed with concreet filling in pot holes in the tamac, and we have been promised a hair pin where you can spin off to your hearts content in safety.
Two other great bits of news

You can now book this for £60, see here http://youraccount.ekmpowershop9.com/ekmps/shops/mazdaontrack/blyton-park---club-special---friday-19th-march-320-p.asp]Rotary Special
