Hi all!
From what I understand, the actual volumetric size of the 13B is 1300cc, and only a 2.6 for tax purposes!
But would you bet on it?
I was having some work done on my rex on saturday, and a car/scrap dealer know all was there-

\'\'never in a million years is that a 1.3\'\'

-ok, bet you £50?

\'\'oh no, this is some Japanese import, you never know what they\'ve done to it!\'\'

Correct, the actual swept volume is 1308cc, but as it\'s not strictly a two-stroke or a four-stroke it\'s classified in terms of equivalent volume if memory serves. It\'s basically to screw you on tax, dunno why they felt the need to do that, Rex owners probably contribute more to the economy through fuel purchases!!!!

If he knows his stuff, just ask him what the \'13\' in 13B refers to. Or show him the logbook, or point him to an internet. Make sure you screw him for his cash though1!! ;)

The best one is to point at the tag under the bonnet that states: 654cc x2 ;)

IIRC it\'s classed as a 2.6 due to the power density.  The rotary has twice the amount of power strokes per revolution of the crank (eccentric shaft) than a 4-stroke piston engine.  Because the tax system was based on engine size, the best way to represent this was to class the 13B as a 2.6.

Haha yes!

Off topic- I read you were going for 400bhp on twins, Howard Coleman was discussing this on rx7club, and it seems quite acheivable! :3gears-lh

how come 13b rew is classed as 2.6l where as 13bt is classed as 2.4l?

Actual is 1.5 x that of a 4 stroke piston engine, which would have only put it at 1.9l so someone at the dvla decided to round 1.5 up to 2.
