Hi,

I managed to take a look under the car last weekend and found that it is not running Koni all round.  Instead it has Koni suspension at the back but stock suspension at the front.

Now my question is, is this ok? or should I be looking to get a consistent setup for front and back?

I am looking to use this car for track days and am on quite a tight budget, so cannot really afford to go out and buy brand new coilovers.

Thanks

hi mate have you seen my breaking thread i have a set of adjustable dampers on the car if your interested.

How ever i am sure your suspension is fine as long as it is axle matched as in, not one koni on drivers side front and one normal on passenger side front if you know what i mean. if you like how it drives then leave it as it is. i am not putting the dampers on my car because i like how it is just on lowering springs and standard shocks.

Hi,
Thanks for the input.  To be honest the handling is terrible at the minute, but im not sure what the cause of this is at the moment.  I have a few things to do before I put it down to suspension (rear tyres are on wrong way, and I cannot swap wheels yet as correct tool for nuts was not with the car).

I have been on your thread and was thinking about these (as well as your wheels).  Out of interest how much would you want for the suspension, and how much for the wheels and tyres?

Thanks again

I could do you a deal on both if you want. Best thing to do first would be to get  tracking done. I got mine 4wheel alligned was expensive but worth while (about 80 odd quid). That made a world of differnece to my egi.

There shouldn\'t be a problem with different suspension. The car will most likely want to step out more, but if you\'ve got one of those egi diffs you shouldn\'t have a problem with that. Tbh I\'d look at tyre pressures first, then alignment and then the tires. Also if it\'s got lowering springs on the front I\'d look at replacing the shocks and the springs could cause your dampers to leak.

And finally, how does it handle bad?

Hi,

When I first got the car, it basically just didn\'t feel stable over 60mph.  Kind of felt like it was pulling all over the place.  I checked tyre pressures and this would have been part of the reason as they were all over the place.  I then had tracking done but it still doesn\'t feel right.  So my next thoughts were with the suspension, either the setup of it or the different setups for front and back.

Might take redgti\'s advice and get wheel alignment done next.

Thanks for all of the help

Oh by the way redgti, how much would you want for just the wheels and tyres?  I currently have a set of very rough looking 15s which I was going to get tyres for, for track day use.  But may be tempted by your set instead.

Thanks

Are you selling the Advans that are on yours MrHankey? I may be interested if you are @ the right price.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

hi mate as the tyres are practically brand new i\'d like £120, i think when the tyres were new they were about £60 a tyre. effectively getting 4 for 2 and the wheels for free. let me know if your interested anyway mate.

Hi,

I have literally just been dicussing this idea with my brother.  I will have a think about it, and what price I would want.  I will give you a shout later in the week when I decide.  Just to let you know that they arent in great condition and at least one has got some damage to the rim.  My friend works at a tyre place though, so I could get a mates rates price for a refurb.

Thanks

Hi mate,

Yep im interested.  How many miles have the tyres been on for? and what wheels are they by the way?  Are they correct offset and everything for the FC?  Out of interest are TII bonnets lighter than EGI bonnets? and if so, are you selling yours :)

Thanks

yeah mate they fit on the fc fine, they are made by grant of something like that will have a look in the garage in a bit. i might be tempted to sell the bonnet yeah, but it isn\'t lighter as far as i can feel. it just looks cooler (i might keep it for mine and spray it black). As for milage on the tyres the guy i bought them off said they were brand new but clearly not, can\'t see them having more than 1000 on them, they have something like 8mm of tread on them or something.

By unstable, does it feel like its kinda bouncing when you turn?

also its the convertable TII bonnets that are lighter, its very very noticable.

and Tiddles. Ive got some black advans with a silver lip if you\'re interested. Theyve been balanced and have tires on them. 8 and 9 j. ot sure on the offsets but the fronts line up with the wing, and the rears tuck slightly

Thanks for the info on bonnets (sorry red im just looking to make the car lighter :) ).

With regards to the handling it just feels bad going in a straight line, and feels like its pulling from all directions.  It basically just doesn\'t feel stable.  I wish I could explain it better, but I havent even driven it in 2 weeks as I have just had sod all time :(

Thanks again

Maybe the rear stear bushes are worn. It can make it feel a bit wobbley especially as your spped increases. You can get DTSS busses to remove the rear stear.

And James give me a text in the morning with your best price for the wheels/tyres.
