Weekend spent breathing in body filler dust should really have got some masks! :2Confused

Getting somewhere near now and welding pretty much finished :wiggle

Going to por15 the whole underside, the only thing that bothers me is ive welded up parts that i cant get to with any kind of primer, im thinking now i should spray as much waxoyl in there as i can and maybe get some of that strengthening urethane foam in the sills to get back some rigidity and to stop air getting to the untreated metal?

anyway some poor quality pictures!

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Brett

Looking good :)
how long did all that take?

Thanks chaps,
It took me quite a while! went through two half kilo spools of mig wire and a few weekends wasted under the car, all be worth it in the end though :D

The welding isn\'t bad - certainly better than mine! And that amount of filler/rust is scary! I\'m glad mine was nothing like that.

As for coating inside - waxoyl = yes, foam = no. The waxoyl will protect the metal, the foam just traps moisture (no matter what it says on the tin).

1990_fc3s_t2

Waxoyl it is then, anyone ever used the waxoyl high pressure sprayer? might give that a go as i dont think the aerosols will reach the inaccessible bits, could do with dunking the whole car in a vat of the stuff.:2Rolleyes

Ok so here\'s what ive done and whats left to do,

3" turbo back with heat wrapped downpipe
buddy club ecu- not too sure what this is going do yet
ported wastegate
k&n panel filter
apexi safc
new stock exedy clutch
boost and water temp gauges
magnecor kv85 wires- cheers clive & lisa
air pump and acv delete
17" hockenheim alloys- cheers blitz
strut brace- cheers liam
serviced best i can, fuel filter oil coolant and plugs but hopefully going to hayward  north for a tune up when the time comes, ignition timing and tps adjustment baffles me.:2Rolleyes

wideband- still to install but got the bung welded in already. (by someone else!):Giggle
 walbro 255- still to install

and to do:
boost controller- not sure which yet
blitz ss dump valve
5 qts of redline super lightweight shockproof gear oil
battery
4 new tyres
new thermostat
new discs, got re-con calipers for the front from the egi.
braided brake lines

Didnt realise i had so much left to do  might just get the oil tyres and battery then go for mot, might make it to my first rotorstock that way:)

TRex

My god you have somehow put this scrapper back together and now want to modify it... :eek:eek:eek
I just hope you do not live near me for my family sake

Also shame on people here egging you on...

Hardly modified just a few upgrades to bring her up to date:2Rolleyes, and this car was only saved as i couldnt afford a better one and i couldnt bare to scrap another fc.
Saving up for the infini thats waiting somewhere in japan just for me!:driving

I\'m not sure if TRex is being incredibly narrow minded or sarcastic but in admiration of the effort you\'ve put it! I hope the latter...

Personally I think you\'ve done a great job - I HATE rust, and my car wasn\'t as bad as this so I think you should have a gold star :p

captainbizzaro

Yeah fair play mate-now you\'re ready to take on a rusty FB!:bandit

:(  Oh dear another one....

Quote1990_fc3s_t2 -- Im not too bad with metal work as my dad was an aircraft engineer and he taught me a little here an there but not much on welding

Quote1990_fc3s_t2   -- Haha yeah loads of work, im just going to bodge it so it\'s good enough for mot.

Apart from what this chap has said (his own words not mine), that car is FDUKed and even a proffesional repairer would scrap it, the structual integerity of it\'s main chassis is extremely damaged and it\'s daft to even repair a 70hp fiesta like that far less a car with a fair bit more energy, that someone will obviously be giving it some iron..

You people need to check yourselves if you believe it was the correct decission to repair this..

And before you answer that, consider if a trap/cut and shut car injured and maimed a member of your family or someone you know..

Jeeeez it wasnt that bad your talking like i cut the car in half an welded it back together.
Maybe it was the wrong decision to save it but personally i don\'t believe it\'s a death trap  :D
Il try avoid your family :rollin

clive

Well done, having welded a few in my time I would say looking at what you have done the car is stronger now than it was before,

Done properly there\'s no reason for extensive repairs to be unsafe

A friend of mine made a lot of money years ago with cut n shuts but he used to use the correct drills to remove the spot welds and slide them together and reweld,

O\' my god your thinking, but one of Dave\'s write offs ended up in an accident and Maidstone traffic conducted an investigation into the car and concluded that had the car not been actually stronger from the extra welding the accident would have been a fatality.

I will say however this applies to cars of the Gen 2\' age and older as new new cars are designed to fold up right through the car to absorb energy.

I remember looking at a car (Toyota) for somebody that had a bang in the front, lifting the rear seats and finding that the car had concertinaed all the way back there to absorb energy just as it was designed to do.
All the best Clive

It\'s alive! finally got round to getting a new battery and gear oil, jumpered the fuel pump for 10secs and she fired right up. :Party

Idle\'s nice and smooth aswell now its got new plugs and wires unbelievable difference, just rather loud! :evillaugh

next up new tyres, fit the wideband and a good clean then it\'s MOT time might make rotorstock yet!... :3gears-lh
