been possinly looking at buying a rx but its a auto, how hard is it to convert to a manual and whats needed?

chrisJDM

ive seen another threado n the same thing and make a list

1. Gearbox
2. Clutch and flywheel
3. Diff
4. Propshaft
5. Pedal set, master and slave cylinder
6. Starter motor
7. ECU ( I will probably get a Apexi Power FC anyway, is this a straight  swap??)
8. Rear Plate (what is this???)

anything else????

hello stranger :p

i\'ve only heard apex\'i pfc works on toyota auto car but as you going to convert to manual i dont see why it wouldn\'t work.

from sth i found on the net

Does the unit work on manual and auto cars?

The PowerFC only supports manual cars (excluding Toyota). It will work on an automatic car however it will not handle gear changes and simply keep the throttle nailed during a gear change. This will result in jerky gear changes and stress placed on the gearbox. The factory ECU during a gear change will communicate with the auto box and drop timing, ignition to ensure a smooth change. For those wishing to use PowerFC with auto you should consider a mechanical auto gearbox instead of an electronic. The PowerFC should work fine with a mechanical gearbox such as power glide, transbreak etc.

the diff should work (maybe its a different type of diff?) but auto have a different final drive ratio to manual. 4.1 vs 4.3 ?
auto flywheel is heavier than manual.
(im sure someone will correct me in a few hours itme :))
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

Why do you want to convert? autos don\'t lose boost on the changes, are better in traffic and can be fitted with a paddle shifter lol

u dont need rear plate unless u wana pull the engine apart! power fc will work on automatic.
hardest bit of conversion is wiring and getting under dash to fit pedals...especially clutch on ur own!

chrisJDM

well i will more than likely get a mate to do it who runs a garage, just need to work out which parts i need and how much its gonna cost

chrisJDM

hey guys need to sort out a definete list of parts i need, so from my list above i dont need to do rear plate?? am i missing anything? what wiring will i need to change???

ad4m1

For the simplest bolt on conversion you need:

gearbox with shifter
manual prop
clutch complete with release bearing
manual diff
clutch master and slave cyl with pipework between the 2
manual starter
manual flywheel
pilot bearing
manual brake pedal
clutch pedal
hose from brake fluid res to master cyl

if you\'re not changing rear plate, you need to modify the plate so you can hook a starter motor up on the top bolt. Also you will only use 4 bell housing bolts.

Wiring wise you need to bypass inhibitor switch. Then hook up speedo drive, reverse light.  If you want to be thorough then you also need to do the neutral switch and 1st/2nd gear switch

I have a complete conversion if you\'re interested :)

Hi doing conversion now but changing engine at the same time. I was told I can still use auto ecu also was told can use auto loom and join wires at gear box. Does any one no what colours join up as I\'m not verry good with electrical. I have all plugs on manual box with enough wire to join.

thanks ad4m1 some great info, im sure we will have good fun doing the conversion, thanks for the offer of all the parts but i already have someone with a donor car

Dansrx7

Thanks for the info very help full. What did you do about speedo and reverse light? Conversion seems ok so far engine now ready to come out:)

Been looking for the big wires for the inhibitor switch and can\'t seem to find them. Is it a bunch of wires or are they 2 on there own or 2 seperate?

ad4m1

on the plug going to gearbox...big fat grey plug u cant miss it...from memory its by the starter motor area. theres 2 wires going into it that are bigger than the rest...iirc theyre in opposing corners.
