Right sick of my open diff now, its boring & limits driving loads, I have a fc origianly an egi but noe has an rx8 engine & 6 speed box in her but sadly still running the egi diff & housing. I really wanna get a diff that i can drive with safely on the roads yet have some sideways action of the roads so im guessing an lsd is the way to go (i have heard of diffs being welded but am getting mixed feedback about living woth it on public roads) but im not hearing much about getting one without spending alot of money, have heard mx5 one\'s do the job but have yet to hear of one being swapped & proven so if anyone can assit in anyway please let me know many many thanks James :xconfused

You can put the FD Diff which is Torsen Diff into a FC been done a few times with a few minor mods, FD stock diffs are quite cheap to pick up

Is that a lsd diff, sorry not too clued up on diff terms & types?

same question from me??

James H

I remember another member who had welded there diff said that he lived with it as a day to ady driver & apart from having to be extra careful in the wet & getting strange looks in car parks it was worth it, can anyone else agree!?!

the hat

its really no as bad as people make ou the only hibg is you end up with alot more understeer in the wet its basically a case of drive like dik and it will bite you

necer heard this expression before??

Well that sounds better than i have been lead to believe, what about parking & slow driving with a welded diff what are the side effects?

sorry never heard that expression before lol

and its ok it clunks and sounds silly but thats the only ime you really notice it is pulling away out a junction or parking

also running a welder daily. its absolutely fine, you gotta just be positive when turning at slow speeds. As for it stepping out, it will be similar do a locking 1.5 way or 2.way. just make sure you get the rear steer eliminated. I understand the hat had no problems with the rear steer + a welder but it completely messed me up, maybe because mine were shagged.

As for it being annoying, its got nothing on ridiculously stiff suspension imo.

if you\'re looking down the lsd route id suggest an mx5 1.5 way over a proper locker

You transplant the whole diff including the housing from the FD into an EGI from reading the threads off the american forum, there are a few mods you have to do,
The FD Torsen diff is a LSD diff it uses spider gears instead of the normal plated LSD diffs, Audi was using that design since the 80s for their quattros.

Ring Reworx they will be able to confirm what you need for the conversion.
