hi guys, i have just put together my single turbo conversion and hooked everything up bar a boost controller and apexi controller, i think!! its running a standard ecu and after sitting for about 5months during work i charged the battery and it started 1st time, i ran it for about 30 seconds and turned it off, visually checked everything and it all seemed ok apart from running abit rough. i started it again and let it idle for about 3mins, was rough at the start then it smoothed out. i turned it off and checked all fluids etc. i have removed the secondary double throttle butterflies, when it was warmed up i tried to rev it up by opening the throttle fully and it \'stuttered\' and wouldnd rev up, it will only rev up if i gradually open the throttle. i take it its getting too much air? can someone advise me on this please?? also would a boost controller and apexi be the only things i need to get it running properly. help would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks Darren

Did you change the injectors when you changed the turbo?

7gabbo7

no they are standard. do you think i should change them? if so what do you recommend?cheers

It depends on what turbo and power you want, but you should be running at least a chipped ECU if you are going single, I have an FC so mine is already a single :rollin keep the primary injectors and upgrade the secondaries, if you have a nose around the 3rd gen section im sure there will be a definitive twin to single thread :)

im planning to install an apexi but this is the first time i have fired it up and just wasnt sure why it would be doing that. so you reckon changing the secondary injectors is the answer? im not wanting to go crazy with power but a high bhp would be nice. the turbo i have installed is a greddy t88.

With a t88 mate you will deffo need.

Standalone ecu (apexi pfc etc) and professional mapping - chuck your standard ecu it will only be of use to drive you to the tuners for mapping and will most certainly be what is causing your car to stutter (its seing more air than the factory map allows and will go into safe mode.

Bigger injectors. at least 1680 secondries, more air needs more fuel.

Bigger fuel pump. Walbro or bosch 044 etc

Cooler spark plugs. Probably 9\'s all round maybe 10\'s

Better cooling. better radiator and intercooler as t88\'s will undoubtably cause some major heat.

Spose if on a strict budget then just pfc/injectors/fuel pump and mapping will get you running.

Woah a T88 on an stock ecu? :rollin

I have now got a T88, its not in yet as I have taken 3 years getting my car ready to get that in lol

Definatly upgrade the fuel pump, put 1680s in the secondary rail, uprated rad so it doesn\'t overheat and definatly run a standalone with proper mapping.

I would suggest getting the PFC in asap and get it on a base map, then you can at least drive it off boost to a garage if you need help with the fuel system.

excellent info lads. i havnt driven the car yet, this stuttering happened on the 1st start up since i put it together and it didnt idle too bad and on slowly opened throttle it reved ok but need to get the rest done before mapping so it all goes together right. can anyone recommend places to get the injectors, fuel pump, apexi pfc and a radiator? cheers again, the help is much appreciated

You put a T88 on an RX7 but didn\'t change the ecu, injectors or fuel pump? Are you having a laugh or am i missing something?

As the guys have said you need some other bits and with a T88 i\'d suggest larger ports on the engine to get the best out of that sized turbo (or you might have a bit of a wait for the tubby to spool) and a fairly decent sized intercooler (either front or v-mount set up). A turbo that size will generate heat which can easily kill a rotary engine so controlling heat is a very important part of ensuring a healthy engine.
Best bet would be to find a rotary tuner near you and ask them what they suggest, based on what your are aiming for and take it from there.

Personally i\'d not even run the engine until you get the fuel pump, injectors and ecu fitted and then only to drive it gently onto a trailer before taking it to the tuner. You need to be careful with a rotary engine bud, one mistake and it\'s rebuilt time so my advise it to err on the side of caution

To run that T88 you will need:

Uprated injectors (im going for stock 550 primary, 1680 secondaries, 550 tertuary)
Uprated fuel pump (im going to run twin 255lph pumps)
Decent FPR with 1:1 rising rate (fuel lab or aeromotive)
Aeroquip fittings
Uprated oil cooler(s)
Upgraded intercooler
Correct bonnet for V mount of FMIC
Chipped/aftermarket ECU
High capacity radiator
Boost controller
Decent exhaust
Uprated air filter(s)
55mm wastegate (greddy do one that is matched to a T78 or T88s)
Decent BOV
Uprated brakes
Upgraded ignition (Twinpower ignition or MSD)
Water injection
Oil temp gauge
Water temp gauge
Mechanical boost gauge
A decent mapper

Thats just to get it running and safe to drive....

Ed_RX7

you dont need different oil coolers, and the gauges arent so important...but i\'d go with everything else.
