Shaun

errrrrrmm you been smoking crack Shaun???? LOL

There is no option , unless you can show me and I have been smoking crack all these years whilst tuning hahaha

Possibly.......................... not.

It was something I was told about and I\'m sure I saw the option of adjusting the % of full against the resistance of the sensor. Good way of you reducing the risk of running low.

Do remember the last time I emptied the tank for some welding there was a lot in the tank for so little on the gauge. Only had a 25lt Jerry tank !

Although I did look at about 4 different programs when looking for a setup for the LPG !

Just downloaded the Demo and can\'t find the Option, DOH !  Can\'t see it in the LINKECU software either !

Sorry for the dodgy info !!!!!!!!

Come to think of it does the ECU even see the resistance from the Tank sensor ? Looking at the Wiring diagram it doesn\'t !

DOH !

It\'s only a ping pong ball on a stick with a potentiometer :rollin, I\'m not sure I\'d trust it\'s accuraccy enough to really take it too much into account anyway personally

shaunwil

True, when I look at the FB fuel sensor when the tank is full it shows empty, and when empty its full :Giggle

Is that because you have got the gauge in upside-down? Ha.

So if you can alter the fuel gauge on the datalogger then if I set mine to full all the time that means I don\'t have to fill up again and my mpg is better than  anything ever that will be or has been created! Hahaha

Toaster have you thought about making your cars surface slippier for the run? As with the problem of air becoming more like a liquid at top speed? Surely a well polished and waxed car will help slip through the air?

Will you also be putting tape on the gaps between your wings and bonnets to reduce drag? Just like the topgear idiots did when they went to the salt flats in America in modern muscle cars to do a flying mile?

Sounds like rubbish I\'m asking but makes sense to make the car as aero and slippy as possible?

AtomicRex

Myth Busters did a program on this....

It was based around improving the economy, which is effectively a by product of reducing drag and improving the potential top speed.

Polishing the car did make a slight difference, but to really make a difference they covered the car in clay and then put golf ball style dimples into the car.

yep, already thought about that, ill be taping up all the seams in the front of the car, removing the windscreen wipers, mirrors and rear spoiler, having the car almost scraping the ground it will be so low and giving it a good clean, its gonna be in the magazine so i could do with giving it a good polish.

Talking to jon now about possibly making a fuel tank with built in swirl pot at the bottom, this would ensure i always get adequate fuel and also save buying a lift pump.

ill need 2 fuel pumps to be able to provide enough fuel and fitting them both in the stock tank isnt ideal, but then having an additional lift pump and swirl pot isnt either.

the main reason aswell means ill be able to make a proper diffuser for the rear end to provide some downforce without the associated drag and clean up the underside from turbulance.

ill be making the diffuser myself, ive already measured everything up and wil be using two 2x1m pieces of ali, bolting it possibly to where the gearbox brace is and running it until it sticks out past the rear bumper by 2inches

Big Al

As always I\'m bucking the trend..........I intend to make my car heavier and I reckon a battery box will hold the front down nicely!!!!!

Sorry to butt in again, just seen an opportunity to make my car complete. It is stock apart from the box and some of the tools in the boot. So good luck with your run, I am following this thread with real interest.

No need for photo\'s as you showed it earlier in your build pictures....................................email is Al.Dixon@yahoo.com.

ok mate, well i never really have time to go to the post office on the other side of the city so if you want to come and fetch it, its yours for nothing, i know its a journey but going to the post office in our city centre is pretty much a full day job

When I went to buy a diff brace off TonyC he was telling me about atomic rexs fuel tanks with the swirl pot inside as he was/had one on his car for racing.

It sounds like a good bit of kit, is the new setup going to be the same cost as what your original idea was?

The diffuser sounds good, have you got a design from the Internet for it? As you don\'t want to accidentally give the car lift instead of suck down? Or is it that I am thinking that a venturi is specifically designed bit of kit when it is actually quite simple?

marco

from what i can gather, turbotoasters fuel tank design is different to the intank system that atomic produces. the \'standard\' atomic fuel setup utilises the original fuel tank, which would get in the way of the diffuser.

well im still working a price out with him at the moment, so if he comes up with a number im happy with he will have my business, im not gonna spend a fortune on this as really i dont need it to do 200mph, but it would help me in the future so i can do other things, i dont want to spend money messing about with trying to get 2 big pumps in the original tank or running a swirlpot and lift pump if this option is simplier

this is a rough idea of what we have discussed, with this configuration it would be almost impossible to get fuel starvation, id imagine you would have to flip the car to cause that issue...in which case the fuel pumps not getting fuel would be the last of my concerns.

but to be honest im not quite happy yet with that design because it would mean i would have to cut a hole in my wheel well for the bottom of the tank to poke through and then run the pumps underneath the car.

Sometimes i may not appear a bufty but i HATE cutting into a shell, ill cut bumpers/bonnets etc to pieces but i dont want to touch the original shell.

so my thoughts are to buy something along these lines

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RACING-ALLOY-FUEL-TANK-40-LITRE-8-8-GALLON-AN10-/250713734243?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a5fb3fc63

i can fit this above my wheel well, as you can see theres an slightly lower pick up point on the tank to connect my 2 fuel pumps to help against fuel starvation and i can put the pumps directly underneath the tank in the wheel well, this way i get to keep my shell hole free

So id be looking at £200 for the pumps and £200 for the tank and connecters, i think realistically thats gonna be the cheapest way of doing things.

in regards of the diffuser, its something ive designed myself after studying aero design and spending a bit of time looking at the underneath of the rx7.

Originally came up with the idea while i was designing one for stav for his fc

i then looked at my own car as i originally had an idea for my own, but looking at the one for the fc it made me realise how much the fuel tank gets in the way on the fd.

to give you an idea of how mine will look, when i get time ill sort out a picture, but here is racing beats which is similar to my design.

only to help with even more downforce ill mine will run more vertical bars.

exactly, it all depends on what jon offers in terms of price, that will determine the outcome, but the ebay tank and pumps in the wheelwell is looking more favourable in my eyes.

marco

how would more vertical bars help to produce downforce? these diffuser thingies have always seemed to be magic to me......
