I am an Welshman living in Cyprus, who received today a letter from the Road Transport Department regarding increasing the cost of Road Tax by 10 times from 56.00 euros a year to 514.00 euros per yearby reclassifying the 1308cc to 2616cc.

I am looking to see if anyone is organising a protest to the government, if so please let me know. I dont want to have to pay the 514.00 euros, if we can get something sorted.

Regards,

Falconer

Don\'t know what Cypriot law is like, but it might be worth contesting it??

What evidence have they got of it being a 2.6?  It is a 1.3, and if you have enough letters from specialists engineers, then what can they do?

I wouldn\'t accept this....fight the cause!!

R-R-Rx7

the reason why the rule has changed is because of the mass imports of the rx8s (and rx7s) from the UK. In uk the 13b is considerred 2.6 and they are following this "rule". It was in the papers a few months ago.

Imnot paying that difference either, we need to organise something

Yup  - I\'d be up in arms about it too!   Ask the govt to demonstrate how the swept volume per revolution comes out to 2616cc....

I feel soory for you guys. To add insult to injury when the westfield was origionaly built with the 13b in it the builder had the foresight to register it on a Q plate and as a 1300cc so not only low tax(£125) but also no emmisions test. But I may end up paying the fuller amount when I get a FD:Grrr

Sorry In not replying sooner.  It seems as though the rotary community here in Cyprus has been heard, at the moment with legal proceedings happening and the support of Stephanides (Mazda Franchise) here in Cyprus - we have managed to get a suspension on the Road Tax issue until the courts decide how they want to play the situation.

Mind you show how long the Cypriot departments take to get anything done.  As the new rate was due to come in on the 1st Jan 2010 - A couple of days later went to the Department of Road Transport with my money and they charged me the old rate of 56 euros.  So all we can do now is hope that the courts rule in our favour!

R-R-Rx7

are you serious? if its the old rate im paying it right away. Online though the rate was 514

R-R-Rx7

i just checked online and my one still sais 514. If you can please pm me your number plates.

falconer

Until the legal proceedings have been sorted I think the online completion has been suspended.  However when I paid mine it seems as though the Road Transport had not updated their systems.  So still paid the old rate.

I dont see what is your point is to lie. I called the DMV and they said this is IMPOSSIBLE. When i asked you for your number plates to bring it up and pay what you paid you completely ignored me. Are you doing this for a specific reason?

Photo Taken on iPhone - Sorry for the poor quality.

R-R-RX7 - I would thank you for not calling me a liar:2Mad.  If you read my previous post correctly, It would explain the whole situation.

During the first week of January 2010 the Department for Road Transport had not updated their computer systems, therefore still had the old rate on there.  They finally updated their system on Monday 11th January to the new rate.

I did not complete the Road Tax online, but went to the Department of Road Transport Office in Aradippou Larnaca and got the Road Tax from their own office.  As some others did in Limassol and Nicosia.  As for giving out my Registration Plate number - I havent done this because I do not know, you.  It amounts to the same thing as you asking me for my bank account number.
