Chaps I sent the rex in today for it\'s MOT at a station that I have been using for the last 5 tests on the old gal, well everything was going well untill the emmisions test (no big suprises there) anyway I had pre warned the tester that she was a bit of a bitch to get through, but like them all he could not be told and he was determined to get the car through.

The emmisions as it turned out were ok, but the oxygen was off, so he rev\'d he up a few times and all was going well when the machine shut it self down and showed up a fault with the exhaust probe. I have to admit at this stage I could smell rubber burning, but thought it was just something getting very hot with the car?

Nope, my old gal had :flamed melted the probe whoops, so that has shut down the testing station till a new one can be bought. So they issued me with refusal certificate, and said that they will no longer do an MOT on that car as it is fitted with a performance exhaust!!!

Has anyone come across that before???

Archbish

Not at MOT time, but I have heard of a few sensors melting during wide band mapping...:Giggle

just another thing has occured to me now as I have booked in for another test with another test station, to which I just happend to forget to mention to them that my car has had a refusal to test certificate as the car is fitted with a "performance exhaust".

So the question is, is the refusal certificate logged at the VOSA which in turn will show up on the next testing stations computer?

Doughnut

Yes it will be logged on the computer so next test station can see it. You need to find yourself a sympathetic mot station or be prepared to refit the standard exhaust.

Laurenzo

Well we are about to find out very soon as someone has just called and asked me to take they car along to them at 10:30, so watch this space as they say.

Right then, I have just got back from this other testing station and what a difference, this guy had everything and it was all brand new equipment.

Every thing was automated, the brake testing equipment was like nothing I had seen before, it even gave me my corner weights! the ramp was automated, no more sticking pry bars in.

Ok back to the emmisions, well the probe did not melt on his equipment, everything was fine again apart from the oxygen to which she was getting to much of, but the guy this time understood the problem and got it through................ WHOOPIE! and yes he has just got himself a new customer, and a customer with loads of mates.

No problem in recomending this guy (Rick the owner) as he is a total petrol head both two wheels and four, in fact he can test your bike as well, and class 7\'s.

R. D. Auto\'s, Terminus Road Chichester PO19 8PH, just down the road for you? :Thumbsup!

They can\'t fail you on a performance exhaust, only if the MOT person deams that the noise is excessive or deamed to be corroded (ie blowing) there is no decibel limit in the UK as there is in japan (hence kakimoto red label exhausts) and the noise has to be compared to what the stock exhaust was like...good luck finding one of those!
