Hi guys, im thinking about getting an after-market steering wheel for my fd, cannot believe how much they are! I haven`t brought a decent steering wheel in 12yrs so wanna treat the rex to one. I want a removable wheel, do i need a special hub/boss? Im liking the momo range:InLove

You have to get a snap off boss kit if you want to make it removable.
I like the Key!s Racing wheels :p

The Momo boss doesn\'t work as standard with the FD horn wiring, you have to kinda bodge it a bit. You can get Jap bosses that go straight on, but they\'re expensive new and rare secondhand. Loads of snap-off kits from £50 up to, like £200 from Driftworks or any of the Jap importers, even eBay, just depends how much you wanna pay and how desperate you are for proper JDM bling. My Sparco Lap 3 wheel cost £25-ish secondhand on eBay, and I had to re-cover the suede myself. Which is only slightly harder than plaiting water or herding cats :(

Good point about the boss. If you get a cheap on then the horn wont work. I got a HKS one with the steering wheel from RHDjapan so i knew it would be right together, but as Nik says, they aren\'t cheap

Ada, how much did you pay for that wheel, thats the kind of style im going for. Looks like i won`t be going for a momo, Nik would you rate sparco over a momo?

turbo boy

Stupid question, is it illigal not to have a horn?

Dunno, dude, I guess they\'re all much of a muchness. Sparco tend to be a bit more sport-orientated than Momo, which are more like a fashion thing, and OMP are even more motorsport based than either of them, but it all boils down to getting one you like the look of and that feels comfortable to you. After all, it\'s the one bit you hold all the time you\'re driving (no sordid details of what else you may hold onto, thanks :D) so you want it to feel nice as well as look it!

The Momo boss can be customised to work with a spade connector quite easily, there\'s a how-to about somewhere IIRC. As far as I\'m aware, Nardi are the only wheels that use a unique hole pattern and size, so any wheel other than a Nardi should fit a Momo-pattern boss.
