Do you have a big vice?

If don\'t chances are you\'ll need to go to a garage to get them in and out.

Or you could bring them round to me and ill do them for beer tokens. I ended up paying nearly £50 to get them out. Thought it would be £20 max... Rotechniks then decided they would want £70 to put the new ones in.... this is with the hubs and bushes off the car and given to them.

It took meand a mate about 10 mins to whack the new ones in with a big vice and a few sockets.

though if you\'re unfortunate you may need more tools to get the hubs off, like so :P

no sh*t, you cut your drive shafts in half to get the hub off?!?

I have access to a 7 1/2 ton press so no issue there, genuinly thanks for the offer though. Much nicer bunch on here than some other forums :), I imagine I\'ll be asking for help n\' advice loads as I go.

took me a while to get the old ones out - but the new ones pressed in by hand with a bit of fairy liquid ;)

yea the hub was litrally stuck to it where as the other side pretty much fell off.

But yea its not to tricky. Just the top part of the hub the takes a bit of persuasion to get off. Other than that theyre fine. Easy to get back on too

Yeh - I\'m guessing that will cover the postage ;)

Seriously though - I\'ve never used them, was going to, but I like the way the car flicks into corners and rides the invisible rails on the loud pedal - so I won\'t fit them.  I think £30 all in (postage included to anywhere in the UK). :Giggle

Another quality 2nd gen thread :D

Bear in mind its not true rear wheel steering, its passive toe in/out depending on the corner loading :Giggle Great when new, causes interesting handling and pulling under breaking when the bushes get old and worn :)

And Grinder.....well, he squeaks when he walks.... :rollin

so quick question... If say, you had access to a machine shop and materials and could machine totally solid metal bushes, is there any reason why these wouldn\'t work?

(I havent looked closely at these OE bushes btw, just checking possibilities)

If theres a spare set going on DTSS eliminator bushes I will deffo take them.

I would think you could make them easy enough. If you\'ve got a lathe you could knock one out in half an hour or so. Im not sure why they are made of nylon (or what ever it is) I would think ally would be the best option if you had some.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

This thread has become a bit huge since I last managed to get one here!!

Quote from: dthebukthey wern;t fitted with lsd\'s. Though you can fit an mx5 lsd into the egi diff casing.

And yes they also had rear steer.

You looking to eliminate the rear steer?

Bit of a pain that an MX5 had an lsd and not an FC lol
Is it an easy thing to fit? Might be a mod I consider and take the chance to refurb the rear subframe at the same time.

Wasnt going to eliminate the rear steer, was just curious is all. Would explain a few things with the steering though :rollin

dthebuk

As i understand it, it fits into the egi diff casing. FC diffs arn\'t particularly hard to get out, you just need to take a few other bits out. like the rear sub frame. The guy that welded mine just undid the subframe and didn\'t fully take it out, but he had it on a huge ramp and it was still a pain. Whilst you\'re there i\'d suggest cleaning u the subframe. If anything it will look nice and impress anyone wanting to buy the car (if you sell it).
Only problem is finding a decent mx5 diff for decent monies, i think you\'ll have to buy a few other parts just to get hold of the diff, unless you\'re lucky.

Edit: oh i missed the part you wrote about the subframe, great minds!!

Ah right, well rear steer should be quite hard to feel, as in you should be pushing it quite a bit to notice it. If it does it on pretty much every corner, like my current car, i find it just makes everything too unstable so should be changed. Saying that, i havnt giving the car a good thrashing with the rear steer eliminated yet, i\'ll let you know how it goes!
