Quote from: meddy;642953Im not sure on the logic here I dont think the SR20 is any more reliable than a rotary. Infact I know more people who have had to rebuild them than I know of failed rotaries. Parts are cheaper and more readily available but thats the only attraction really. Also they sound terrible. :Giggle

And explode if you try and rev them to 10krpm :rollinsilly pistons

Wanna sell me your broken engine and g/box then???

In terms of cost its not going to be cheap even if you\'re doing the work yourself. I guess you already have the engine g/box and all the ancillaries you want (bigger turbo, injectors, fmic etc), plus entire wiring loom which you\'ll need to do the job properly and some after-market ECU? Are you building a forged engine? SR20 will see you at a push to a little over 400bhp with some cams + MHG etc, but you\'ll be going through gearboxes so would need to either build one of those or put a RB25 GTST box on, which will mean significant transmission tunnel fab work.

If you\'re not going for a forged engine, whats the point? 370ish bhp with a 2871 turbo is not going to be any more reliable than a mildy ported rotary and supporting mods. Plus the finished product would possibly be slower as the engine and box are much heavier and bigger, not even taking into consideration what your drive ratios might be!

You will definitely not be able to run a standard rotary box and will be needing a custom prop. Have you thought about how you might run the exhaust system manifold - tubby - elbow - downpipe - cat etc as this sits on the opposite side on SR\'s.

Seriously though if you want rid, i\'ll call dibs and have your rotary stuff off you!!!

Thanks

lol @ this thread is full of Fail

I can understand why people V8 RX7s to get reliable 400bhp NA power and MPG. But replacing one Jap turbo motor with another jap turbo motor with similar outputs is crazy, to get an Sr20 to around 350bhp cost money, eg ECU,Intercooler, injectors, upgraded turbo, clutch etc I know because I helped a friend build a 200sx and he spent at least 6 grand getting the car to 380bhp. And it was no more reliable as a 13B.

Why don\'t you just buy a Nissan 200SX and be done with it?, it will be much cheaper then converting a FC , sell the FC as is then buy a 200sx makes more sense, or V8 the FC if you want high BHP with peace of mind

s13s are made of chocolate not s14a\'s iv not known of a dead sr20det exploding on 300horses at 60km? - it not about silly power for me its about the unusualness and reliability - im not trying to build a don mega drift or track car, i want to build something i can finally enjoy driving without the fear

i like the look of the fc cab, and im not doing this for silly power, the min i started going to wgt for more power and repairs from a so called expert i get catastrophic death.....

ill post some pics of the new engine

If you keeping the SR20 roughly at stock power as you are saying above, then your money numbers should work out. Good luck with it anyway, it will be an interesting project.

Could be a deal to be had here if you\'re interested... I think you mentioned you already have an SR with everything ready to go in your OP?

Well, I am currently in the process of doing almost the reverse to you. I am putting a bridge ported, single tubby, 13b re from an FD into my S13 shell. Meaning I have a 321bhp (dyno proven) SR20 Det, with 340 ft/lbs including all ancillaries, FMIC, PFC, 720cc injectors, all clocks and wiring etc etc which will be up for sale very soon.
Trouble is I also have an FC which is currently sitting minus engine and g/box. I\'m not scared of a re-build so would you be interested in my set-up for yours plus cash my way? My engine can be seen running as its still in the car and I was going to be asking for about £1650 for everything ready to drop in...

You could then sell on your current SR and make some money back!!!

Thanks

hmm hmm hmm.......lemmi have a think, you see its just easyer to throw the 200 one in as both cars can be done simultaneously next to eachother:guinness

ok, no reason the same couldn\'t apply for having the engine already out of the car though. You\'re going to have to ditch 99% of whats in the FC anyway!

I know of two S14a\'s that have let go at around that sort of power and mileage. One with a bottom end failure and one with valve train issues.

You have to except that they are all getting to be old cars, with sometimes dubious histories. As soon as you modify any engine then a reduced life is going to go hand in hand with it.

Any update on selling the engine?  :WaveBye
