i`ve had 3 rexs in the last 7 years and had no problems with any of them.  the last one flooded oce. but apart from that never missed a beat

got number 4 on its way from japan nw. once you drive one you`ll be hooked . just dont rush into buying the first one you go in.
if i had 8 hour to cut down a tree. i`d spend 6 sharpening the axe

I bought my FD in Sept 1992.  I drove it as a daily driver up until April 2002.  The only problem I had with it at the time was the OMP failing.  It had over 83K miles before I took it out of service.  I\'m in the stage of rebuilding the car.  The paint faded etc.  So the body is now done and I\'am sorting all the engine pieces that I need.  I kept it bone stock all this time.  It will not be stock when it goes back ibto service.

got my rx in2004 and only had boost probs, engines been fine and i use mine every day to go work

•Engines if driven well (not racing) should do a happy 60miles:
Correct 60k, but well maintained & serviced engines can do alot more (mines on about 68k)

•Rebuild will cost £2000 + even if you fit it your self
Sounds about right, but it all depends on the reason for a rebuild, if it was seal failure then it\'s about right, but if a tip or turbo goes then you could be looking at housings rotors etc. which bump up the price prety quick!

•Rx7 should do 18mpg (dont know if thats urban or not)
More than that matey! I used to get 25mpg on a run with mine on a regular basis! about 190mile on half tank sat at 70-80mph, but open the taps and your in single figures, just depends on your driving style!

•they drink a lot of oil! top up after some thing like every 1000miles
Again this depends on how you drive the car! I can go between services with out having to top up! but the more you rev it the more it draws in so your going to be looking about a litre for every 3k driven tidy.

•hard drive on your bum (very stiff suspension)
Not overly!! I\'ve got a set of GAB coil overs and they are firm without being over stiff!! and I know std shocks are softer! I find it a nice drive & arrive fresh at the destination with out any ass pains & feeling in all limbs.

•group 18 insurance
FD I think is group 20!!

•0 to 62 in mid 5 sec
about 5.2 seconds ;)

What i\'ll also add in is that (unlike the Merc) you can tell the Rex was designed as a sports car from the ground up!! Kerb weight of 1260-1310kg depending on model will easily give you well in excess of 250bhp/tonne.

At the end of the day, if you buy a Merc - you end up with \'just\' a Merc. Buy a rex with your head and not your heart and you will have something that only a tiny fraction of people in the world have (turbo rotary power) and something that I GUARANTEE you will stop people in the streets in their tracks!!

Without a word of a lie, I have watched people walk into things whilst staring at mine - and it\'s been barely modified!!

Jit, good to here you and the rest are all still on here! Just randomly passing through as im slowly looking to get one back and came across this thread.

Jas - I was in the same boat as you about 1.5 years ago and in the end I wanted an RX so bad I just took the plunge (after memorising as much info from this invaluable forum as I could). I bought a \'94 FD from Jit, had minimal service history, about 90K miles on the clock in fairly stock form. Suffice to say it never missed a beat, the engine and chassis were solid during a full year of ownership. Only thing that went wrong was the alternator broke but that only cost £15 from Brian on here.

Yes everytime I drove it I was sweating expecting something to blow up but it didnt! Its the same with any highly-strung performance car, you will get good examples and bad examples so you just have to search out a solid one (a bit of luck also helps!) but I guarantee it will be the best ownership/driving experience ever! There is nothing that touches FDs for performance per pound, looks, and rarity. These cars get attention and have this legendary status for a reason.

Yes they drink oil.
18mpg are you joking!?!? I was in Shell everytime I turned the ignition.
Engines can be thrashed and they will last as long as looked after. Rotary engine wins Le Mans 24h? I used mine everyday and it was fine.
Rebuilds...never needed one but 2k is still less than certain parts blowing up on similar class performance cars (bloody M3 double vanos!!!)
Suspension is fine. Maybe on lowered coilovers but even the standard bilsteins seemed ok. Only difference I found was when I upgraded from stock wheels to bling 18" alloys. Note: Dont do this! Stick to lightweight 17s as the looks/handling tradeoff isnt worth it!
Insurance is cheap just call Aon and ask for classic car policy
0-60....varies but these cars are very cheap to tune and if done smartly can avoid harming the engines longevity. Catback is essential and prob gives a little extra performance and stick an apexi or f-con engine management unit on there and you will definately see an increase in performance and possibly economy too.

Good luck with your search and remember DONT BUY A MERC! (unless its an SL55, SLR or one of those old school sl convertibles lol)

rebuild 2K plus... well mazda prices have shot up and rotor housings are now about 1k each!!!!!
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

one or two of you said guys it makes you lol when peps stop to look at your car ---- the amount of times iv all most crashed my car cos i was looking at a rx coming or when i drive past rotechnicks and then bore who ever is sitting next to me about how much i want one.
its a  great feeling to here from all you guys its safe to say my minds made up and its very tempting to join some one as they take me out in there rexs as i know that the 1st rex that i look at (when it come to buying one) would be hard to walk away from
