right then ...

the car seems to be shaking from the front ( very violently ) at high speeds

it also pulls to the left - which makes right hand bends very interesting

it has new bushes done before i bought it

the only thing that i spotted was on the service sheet , some one suggest it needed a new hub ( dont know what it is or where it is - or how much they are )

so i could do with a way of checking that

the only other suggestion i have had is to check the wheel bearings - as they can make a car funny at high speeds

when the tracking was done , the bloke said that nothing was wrong underneath the front end - he grabbed hold of stuff and pulled on it and such like

the only thing he didnt check was wheel bearing or warped discs !

as i said before - i checked the passenger side - i will check the drivers side next

failing this im debating just taking it to WGT and getting an expert opinion

Best thing i reckon. Hub=bearings. that is where your problem lies. If not, i will give you a beer at Rotorstock.:D  Just get it ready for then.

John

grinder

thanks john , i will have to jack it up and have a nosey

will it be as simple as getting holfd of the wheel and seeing if there is any play in it - or something more complex

If there is any play at the wheel/hub, that is the culprit. But honestly, if you can take her to Pip, or any other Reputable Rotary garage, then that will be the best course of action to take.

that was my idea - take it to pip and see what happens - the only thing is that i am skint - its surprise how much difference having a child makes ( and the fact that there is only one wage now in the household ) - so that along with what pip charges - could be a big no no

i will jack it up and have a look !

how can you check play in the hub - just leave the wheel on and try and twist it

another daft question - could a back wheel hub be causing this - or just the front ?

Hi,
Ref baby, i have one on the way, in days few so i need to get as much done before it is old enough to pinch the 7 fund:D
The Rear could be doing it. If you jack the car up, it needs to be as stable as hell, so the best is to put her onto a car lift if possible. Take a grip of the wheel at opposite ends, and push in and out alternatively, ie left right etc. Then change position on the tyre. Do this to each corner, and hope to God you find your crap bearing.
You say that the bushes were replaced before you got the car. Have they been looked at to ensure that they are seated correctly? Have the rears been checked?
Good luck, as always,

is the baby your first ??

well i managed to actually buy the rx7 on the sat as my daughter was born on the monday - now that was good timing :) :)

some bushes were done on rear - not sure which ones though - its in another thread somewhere on here !!

i know the front passenger has NO play in it at all - which annoyed me slightly as i thought that corner was the problem :(

if i do find a bad bearing - is it a big job to replace or am i looking at serious £££££ ? - saying that i can reember someone on here getting new bearings from a proper machine place - they just matched the bearings and the race to something else ( IIRC )

i think i have a few probs really - i think the bearing would make it vibrate at speeds - but i cant see it effecting the steering - unless it could ?

its a shame that rotorstock is only 4 weeks away - i need to get this checked asap - i dont was to go there and a wheel snap off :(

thanks for all your advice john , i hope "RX rich" will forgive us for thread stealing :) :)

Found what i was looking for .......

"Just had new rear suspension bushes and new rear bearings
by Hurleys in Coventry"

thats some of the info i got from the previous owner - and i dont really doubt what he says - i did speak to hurleys for a copy of the invoice for the work done - but he wouldnt play ball - infact he accused me of being a tax man in the conversation ??

i cant see how people run a business and cant lay there hands on an invoice or info on work carried out in the past ??

thanks again matey

hummmm these rx7 are just a right pain in the rear :(

the simplest of jobs seems like an impossible task , and you can trust no one to work on them

will have to find some time and have a real good luck at every thing - should be interesting

Hey Grinder (yes I\'m still alive!),

Not been on for a while, but after reader this rather legnthy thread ........ it should definatly be one of your front bearings. Shouldn\'t be too tricky to sort. Once you have the right part, pick your weather, and it shouldn\'t take you or I more than a day.

I\'ve finally sorted out mine though. While Pip was on holiday, mine went in to "get it sorted" .......... the only thing that got sorted was my bank acount!!!!!

First on the list was cure an untracable water leak in order to get on the rolling road to tune it, this cost me £360 I was given a water pump gasget and was told that I had to put this on before they could tune it!!!!!! Now this aint Pips fault cause he was on holiday and had no idea this happened....... but bloody hell!!!!!

Anyway, I stripped the engine back down again while it was still in the car, and rebuilt it the same day, hey presto it goes like a dream! Oh! and it now has a rather loud dump valve:D .

So anyway, how are you? lol

grinder

hiya matey !

so its running fine then - that always good news !! :)

i took mine out on sat for a while - and its fine at low speeds - just at high speeds it gets iffy - i need to jack it up and have a look - but after spending the weekend looking for a new car ( i blew the mondeo up ) -  i have not had chance !

so whats all this about a dump valve ??? did you get it from pips ?? what was the damage ££££?

are you going to the meet on monday ?

Ahhhh! Poor Mondeo(RIP).

Got the dump valve from DP Motorsports ( //www.dpmotorsports.co.uk ) £75. I\'ll be getting the Apexi slim line turbo timer next.

I should be at the meet but I went to Peterborough on Sunday, and my clutch was mis behaving! Normal gear changes were okay but if I was sitting at a junction with the clutch pressed for a little while, it would slowly engage itself in gear and start moving the car!!! (almost like a cable slipping) but the pedal would come back up after 10secs or so.

Need to look at it but it\'s peeing down!!

grinder

the mondy has now been replaced with a rover 420si - so thats not tooo bad ! :)

the BOV isnt too bad at £75 - is it all fitted and working ? - i will have to have a listen to it !! :)

i know on my egi the clutch was iffy - the pedal used to stick to when you changed gear and the such like you had to put your foot under the pedal and move it back up - nice and simple and more importantly - CHEAP ! :)

a turbo timer eh - will it still work with the alarm/imob ??

your certainly putting some £££ into that car now - i suppose it should pull my finger out and have a look at mine :(

just wish i had a big open area like you do - would make life easier :) :)
