Heya,

I`m soon to be going V-mount and obviously i`ll have to relocate the battery. Been having a quick look around and came across this kit in the states.

Seems to have pretty much everything needed, although it does not have a Circuit Breaker in the kit, I would imagine this would be recommended?

Anyways here is a link:

Decent price, comes with a nice enough looking box too.

In the ideal world you should use a fuse and a circuit breaker in series with the breaker rated lower than the fuse. The reason for this is that if you have a relatively minor problem the breaker will trip, but if your problem is more major, i.e. a full short of the battery cable it has been known for breakers to weld their contacts together as they try to break. If that is the case the fuse will blow before the battery cable welds itself to something or the battery explodes.
You should at least put an inline fuse as close to the battery as possible.

I can\'t beleive the money people want for these \'kits\' - it\'s not rocket science, really.
My last relocation cost me £40 all in - that was cables, terminals, box, fuse, insulation, and everything else I needed.

//www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk, work out what you need, and get it there muchcheaper.

On that website a battery box by itself is £40?

I think that it\'s a little over priced & by the time you get it shipped to the UK aswell!!
you are better off doing what I did:

1: battery box from a marine dealer: £12 ish
2: cable from an Auto electrical place (170 amp cable £3ish a meter)
3: Terminals & shrink wrap (auto electrical shop)
4: Cicuit breaker from ebay: 140 amp £15

Think mine came to just over £40 all in!

You don\'t need to get the box from VWP - get a marine/caravan battery box from eBay or a marine spares shop, they\'re about a tenner.

Best of all, if you are looking to get a better weight distribution...why not get a gel battery rather than an Acid one??

You can actually fit one of these under the passenger seat....which is even better, as it doesnt fill up your boot, and the cable run is less...and you dont need a box at all!  Just a clamp!

SiH

I certainly vcouldn\'t fit a battery under my passenger seat!
Most people with aftermarket seats couldn\'t, and I\'d be surprised if you could with the stock ones.

However, if you are going to put the battery insiude the car I\'d highly recommend a gel one - Having a massive heavy projectile in the boot is bad enough, so I personally prefer to minimise the risk by having one that won\'t shower you with acid in the event of the worst happening the amount of potentially lethal battery installs you see around in people\'s cars is proper scary - lead acid Batteries velcro\'d to boot carpets, power lines with no fuse between the battery and the bay, etc - it\'s pretty worrying tbh.

AtomicRex

You can if you cut away some of the carpet.  And it isn\'t as though it is going to be seen!

The other place is behind the passenger seat.

I do agree with SiH about the appalling battery conversions I have seen....It is the same with swirl pots in the boot.  I know it is an "if" regarding crashing...but why bother with seat belts if that is the case?
