I recently bought an ARC airbox from a mate of mine, i am wondering whether to just renew the filters in it an use, or fabricate a new box with twin cone filters in. The reason for asking is that the arc box just seems to take its air from the engine bay which then just makes it as bad as a normal cone filter but with more restriction so surely this is a bad idea ?? I may try and make a similar box to the arc but with twin cone filters in but have it sealed from the engine bay to stop suckin in hot air. Some body said to me that i need to be careful on cone filter choice as they have a rough limit on what sort of bhp they reccommend running on them, how big do these filters need to be, i will also be fitting a cold air intake pipe from front bumper to feed it, if any one has any ideas on something i might be missing or may want to consider any help is welcomed,
Thanks in advance Dave.

Why not just fit a cold air feed to the arc box.

But the box is still open to atmosphere and sucking in hot air so would i be better of putting panel filters in the stock air box ??? and just sacrifice on the shiney looking box :-) lol

i worked out you can just about squeeze two RU-0840 K+N filters into the standard airbox with a bit of creative hose use. i think two of them will be plenty for below 500bhp.

although, if you\'re going to all that effort, why not keep the standard airbox and upgrade the panel filter?

well for performance twin cone filters has got to be better than stock air box and panel filter ?? it made 253.8 bhp on the rollers last week at brands hatch so that 0.2 bhp is very important to make it a nice round figure :-)

I\'ve heard that Land Rover K&N filters are a straight fit!

I have looked into filter choice and found a test was done and apexi filters came out top of the pile for filtration and for bhp gain, i will try find get some prices off my mates company and will let every 1 which way i go with this,
Thanks for ur help guys.

Yup, the Apexi\'s are the way forward - the test was on one of the supra forums.

I\'ve always wondered about the validity of a cold air feed on an FI\'d IC\'d car - as by the tiem the air has been squadged by the turbo (and heated by it) then cooled down by the IC, is it really going to make that much difference?

I know FI\'d cars run better when it\'s chilly outside, but is that not due more to the ambient temps that are flowing over the IC, as oppose to intake temps? It\'d be intersting to see some good empirical data.

i guess the biggest benefit would be getting rid of heat soak on the filter, or at least making it less of a problem.

who had the shielded cone filter set up on here? there was a thread where he\'d managed to set up a sealed off filter under the vent on a Feed type bonnet which looked pretty cool.

I know i not lookin at massive gains but surely every degree cooler on the intake will be better than nothing, i not spoke to my mate yet and at the min i waiting for pay day so wont have filter just yet either, plus i gettin the adjustable trailing arms and toe arms fitted first.
