Last time I done it in the spare room (unhappy wife)... lol

This time it\'s outside/in the shed/in the kitchen....

Spent 2 hours in the sun sweating my ass off stripping the block. Still got the front cover and the sump to come off. Then it\'s open it up time!

chrisJDM

looks good, i bet your wife was pleased with having it all over the kitchen worktop :Giggle

Jim_rx7

Yeah, she\'s not too keen on that!!

Nik da Greek

Hahaha! Is that your revenge for her getting the hump with you using the spare room last time, to use the kitchen worktop :Giggle

What went wrong with the last rebuild? :(

Jim_rx7

Possibly a nicked water seal. Gonna pressure test it this time once it\'s all back together.

Looking forward to what the in-laws say tomorrow when they\'re over! Lol

Nik da Greek

Ahhh, that\'s a right bummer after all your hard work on the last build. The water seal, not the in-laws, I mean :Giggle

So whats the bets then pinched waterseal? or some casting thats just too borderline? :3Confused I\'m happy mine tested okay i freaked at first as it did not hold pressure (turned out the tester leaked but that was promtly fixed!)
I woof in your general direction.

I\'ll have it apart Sunday as long as the weather\'s decent.

I have a full set of plates so I should be ok whatever it was. Will defo give you a shout about that tester.

Jim_rx7

Well it\'s apart. Some evidence of water in the front housing. Very small amount of surface rust on rotor which I would assume is from coolant.

I\'ll get everything cleaned up and measured to see if it was a warped plate or not. I still think it could be because I over tightened the through bolts by mistake, left for a few hours then re-torqued to correct spec.

Had this with a friends engine that we rebuilt and pinched the outer water seal at the top which we didn\'t know til we\'d put it all back in the car and then filled it up, what a bugger !!

Based on that, it\'s more than likely your plates are all ok and was just bad luck mate....

If you get a wriggle on you can have it back in for Rotorstock lol :D

I take it it\'s quite easy to pinch a seal then??

I\'ll be pressure testing it this time thanks to leons kind offer of a pressure tester to borrow.

I don\'t mind to be honest, I quite enjoy it! :)

leon

Yep! its very easy to pinch them, mine was painfully obvious as it was squeezed outside of the engine, the seal will be physicaly damaged if it was pinched.:Thumbs-up
I woof in your general direction.
