Hi everyone,

yesterday we plugged in my new rebuild engine with transmission in the \'91 FC Turbo 2 (200HP).

Filling in the engine oil works fine (of course it\'s easy ) but we do not know how and WHERE to fill in the gear oil.
I bought Castrol TAF-X 75W90 2,5 liters - correct?

Pls tell me (particulary with pictures) how and where to fill in the gear oil.

For a little "thank-you" here a few pictures of the wedding :WaveBye:WaveBye

go to this website, enter, then go to service manuals on the left, you\'ll want the kouki one. I\'d link you directly but its not loading for me.

It has pictures of all of the holes. I think there\'s three or so? 1 to drain, 1 to act as a level and 1 for filling. The filling one should be the highest .

I assume the box is back on the car? Its hard enough putting an empty one back on!

edit, oh it works now

There are 2 square plugs on the side of the gearbox - on your car (Left hand drive model) these are on the drivers side.

You check the level with the lower plug, and fill using the higher one.  Fill the gearbox once it\'s connected to the engine again.

I\'ve found it easier to run a length of pipe down from the engine bay into the top hole, and fill gradually until it just starts to come out of the lower hole (inspection hole).  At this point, replace both plugs and tighten them.

Might be completely wrong here but, I\'m sure I read somewhere about filling the section that the gear lever mounts in. Aswell as what Prof has said.

i thought that too. I almost did it till my mate pointed out it was wrong. Thats what you get for looking at the pictures in the manuals and not reading :Nono!

You do need to put a bit of gearbox oil in the selector cup if it\'s not got much in it, but that part of the gearbox assembly is physically seperate from the main box, so if you tried to put 2.5L of oil in it you\'d have wet toes :rollin

im sure i read somewhere aswell - remove the top one first and then the bottom one

this is based on that if you get the bottom one off first and drain the oil , if you cant remove the top one - then your stuffed !! :D

you should be ok removing both the plugs on the side.

The two drain plugs are located underneath the gearbox - one large one under the main gearbox housing (rectangular plate with large circular drain plug) and a smaller drain plug under the narrow end of the gearbox as some oil will sit lower than the main drain if the gearbox is at an angle (which it might be ;) ).

BTW - I\'m no expert - but I\'ve done this twice now so I know where the holes are :) :)

Yeah I didn\'t mean to fill the whole box from there :Hammer I just remember reading about it somewhere. It stuck in my head cause at the time I thought it was a little odd. Tiz good to know though.

Easy way to fill gearbox and diffs is an easibleed. You take the cap off, fill it with oil then use a spare wheel to pressurise the bottle and blow in the oil easy. Few bottle fills and job is done !
