Had a Re Amemiya rear light cover repaired and resprayed and its ready to refit, or I should say to fit to my car for the first time.

I have purchased some very thin 3M adhesive tape suitable for attaching badges etc to vehicles, which should help with retaining the cover, but I\'m not sure whether to just push the cover on to the light clusters, or whether there is a better (safer) method.

What is the correct fitting procedure ?

Thanks
Chris

sticks like sh*t (or no more nails) or some similar water proof sticky stuff id suggest for the gluing. The rear lights and centre cluster is fairly well secured to the car so sticking the cover to them should be fine bud
:Laugh LOL

Hi bud,

There is no "corect fitting procedure" unfortunately.  It cant be done with the lights out, so here is what I was told 3+ years ago when I asked (Donato gave me the heads-up :)).

1.  Replace all bulbs in the rear clusters before you start!
2. Apply sealant or trim tape to back of cover
3. Push cover on carefully (it may crack slightly)
4. Fill over any hairline cracks whislt on the car,
5. Hope you dont blow too many bulbs during the life of the car!

HTH!

Thanks for the details Chris.

I did not realise it was such a permanent fixture.

If I fit it now, i\'ll have to remove it in the winter as the car will be having a full respray. Maybe I\'ll keep it safe until after the respray.

I use Sikaflex - awesome stuff - sticks well enough to secure bodykit panels - but with gentle persuasion will lift (if you are careful and patient). Had my rear light cover on and off twice :Hammer

Its not too permanent a fixture guv, just as permanant as you want to make it, bearing in mind you dont want someone walking off with over £300 worth of RE Amemiya FRP, lol

Help !

Fitted the rear light cover tonight, used a bit of double sided tape. But the tail gate cannot close as there is about 6mm interferance from the light cover.

Managed to remove the lightcover without damaging it, but did you have to cut the top lip off your cover ?

Any advice will be welcome.

Thanks

No, mine was ok.... have you got a picture so I can visualise?

The bodyshop trimmed it back a bit bud.  You have to be careful though as the cover has a lip along the leading edge which kind of helps to hold it in place.

Mine still used to catch ever so slightly on the right hand corner, but a little push down freed the boot :)

Thanks guys,
Yes Chris, mine has the lip which locates it on the centre light unit, but that is the section that interferes with the tail gate closing.

The cover fits very snuggly over both LH & RH light units and the thin lip pushes under the centre light unit and the top thin lip snaps over the top of the centre light unit.

I have a picture at home and I\'ll try post it up tonight.

From what I can work out; The centre light nor the LH & RH light units do not interfere with the tail gate closing.
With the light cover fitted, it locates on the LH & RH light units and snaps over the centre light unit, but protrudes about 5 to 6mm in to the boot space.
I cannot move the light units away from the car by 5-6mm, so it must be the cover that requires cutting, BUT this will require cutting the locating lip off.

As the cover is very thin in this area to provide the flexibility it will be difficult to glue or attach the return lip back on after I cut out a 5-6mm strip.

So, maybe copious use of sikaflex or some similar bonding material would work sufficiently well to stop the unit coming adrift after fitting.

I\'ll let you know how I get on.
(Chris - nice car you are showing in your avatar).

No sorry, Wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it back in the garage until the car has its full respray.

Speedworks

I would use some 2K adhesive in the center rear light area and just add some small bits of 3M tape on the left and rear lights

Speedworks

the tape loosens pretty good if you warm it afterwards in case of need or emergency. Just be sure to cool the part with a wet cloth or it will get deformed
