What turbo will spool up quick and come in nice and early?

Thinking of going for a single turbo (whilst my engine is out and its has to be mapped anyway), I\'m not fussed about getting 500+ bhp I just want something that will suit me for drifting. I want one that spools up quick and will come in nice and early - basically something as near to the same driveability as the stock twins.

So what sort of thing should I be looking for?

Thanks guys

Apexi RX6 spools about 2500-3000 rpm, had one in the Satin Black rx7 :Thumbsup!

What power can these smaller single turbos flow on a non-ported engine, and at what rpm does the power tail off?:Thumbs-up

My vote goes for the GT35/40....and if you need one give me a call, I would be happy to get you the best deal.  It starts pretty much at 2500 all the way through to 7.5/8 thousand rpm.  Depending on the porting you are doing will depend on the hotside.  Just sold one to Dave who is running a street port and he has the 0.84, whereas Tony, who has a bit more porting, I\'ve supplied a 1.06.

If you are interested in manifolds and downpipes....no doubt Tony will have some pictures up on his section by Monday :)

2500? On what ports?

AtomicRex

Mine was showing power starting to come in at 2500, and that was with a street port

most small to medium turbos will make positive boost at 2.5K, the porting on your intake exhaust ports will effect this making positive boost come in earlier and full boost. For example on my halfbridge I make actual positive boost at 2k when I hit the throttle and actual FULL boost around 4.2 to 4.4 depending on the boost setting to the wastegate opening

Thanks - is it realistic to have a single turbo boosting hard at 3K and pulling to the top end on a non-ported engine?  If so then would the turbo be able to flow 400-450bhp?
Single Turbo time!

On stock ports you looking at full boost at 4k on a meduim single, you need a smaller T04E to be pulling real hard at 3k.

A T04E will give 400fly but you gonna have to run it a high boost to get there eg more then 1 BAR on stock ports

How would that compare to running the stock twin turbos, but non-sequential on a stock engine in terms of spoolup and peak power/driveability?
Single Turbo time!

BlitzBoy

Not much in it to be honest except simplicity with a single, you can get get 400fly on stock twins with the right mods and tuning.
The small single will give you simplicity, reliable and less heat then stock twins at 1 bar for example.
Sticking to sequential will give you more low down grunt though, non seq will give you less power low down but some people dont like the transition at 4k.

The fastest stock "Seq" twins with WI acheived a 12 second dead quarter mile in this country on stock ports.

Its all in the Tuning!

I misread the 2.5k as full boost rather than starting boost thats why I asked what porting :p
Makes more sense now

Well i\'m all sorted now.  I\'ve bought Kash\'s T60 kit.  Its not an ideal turbo but as the engine is being rebuilt by the rotary god that is Era i\'m confident that he can port it to get this turbo in as soon as possible.  I\'m also getting the kit to Era to see if he can do anything with that as well  :)
