Hi - does anyone know for certain if Mazda changed the Vintage Red paint on 1999 onward FD\'s? Mine\'s a \'99er that a Surrey Mazda dealer imported new, and the sticker in the door jamb says paint code NU - which everywhere I search is said to be Vintage Red. However, \'tinternet searching sometimes produces refences to a Vintage Red II introduced on the \'99 revisions, and also comment that its a tri-coat paint.

The Mazda touch-up paint bottle in the car says \'856377710NU\', so I guess its right given the NU ending, but when I spoke to a Mazda dealer a) they coudln\'t track that part number and b) were unsure if it was a tri-coat or normal paint.

I\'ve rung Customer Services at Mazda UK who weren\'t overly helpful when they found out it was an import, and ended up telling me to ring a Mazda dealer\'s bodyshop!

I know there aren\'t many real \'99ers in the UK, but does anyone know for sure if this is a normal single coat paint or a tri-coat paint finish?

Thanks.

Rod.

Picture will have to wait until after the detailer has done his magic - hence why I want to be certain on the paint type.

Shame you changed the colour - I think the blue on an FD looks great.

+1 on the post-99 Blue cars looking stunning...

However, maybe as I have a soft spot for Silver RX\'s, I think CharlieP\'s motor looks stunning in that colour - really suits the lines of the RX.

Was already like it when I bought it!
Saying that....EVERYONE has commented on how nice it looks so :P

Will have it sprayed one day...the paintwork isnt brilliant

Another 99 spec :D
If it was a surrey dealer that imported it then its more than likely to of been T.W.Whites. They imported mine back in 99 brand new :D
What mods does yours have Rod?

Spot on - a T W White import from new.
No mods whatsoever - aside from the Mazdaspeed carbonfibre gear knob that the last owner put on it. Unfortunately at £100+ for a new original Mazda gear knob that\'s a mod that will have to stay put!
Aiming to take her to the Brooklands meeting on 26th all being well.

I used to live not far from the TW White branch in Weybridge where there was a blue 1999 RX-7 (nearly new import)... was there for a good long time... I think it was the one that VBH reviewed on Top Gear(?)

I nearly bought it on several occasions. As I used to have my MX-5 serviced by TW Whites, I had plenty of opportunity to hang out and drool at the 7 :) But as some people here are finding lately - buying a house leaves you short of cash :yes

I believe that car was bought by a guy who worked at Toyota, and used to own an 10th Anniversary Edition  MX-5 (Innocent Blue Mica with chrome wheels Mk2). Apparentley someone commented on the 7, when he brought it into work, saying how nice the new bodykit on his 5 looked :) :) :)

I think Whites were asking too much money for them, which was Mazda\'s problem when they imported them to the UK. Mine took 2 years before Whites first registered it, so clealry people wern\'t falling over themselves to buy! The good thing is that it helped keep the mileage down - so at 10 years old mine\'s only done 11k miles!

I don\'t know what you mean

I know I\'m a picture whore :(

Well their loss....haha

Mine had only done 18,000 when I bought it a year ago...just broken 30 yesterday! And its not my only car! Love driving it though...specially now that its been mapped!
Even smoother than before!
 Defiantely something I\'d recommend! :D
