Dave still has the car and having known how this car has been pampered I am surprised he still has the car, as a better Gen 1 will not be found,

Hopefully he will bring it out of the garage for Brooklands as he has threatened to.

I may or may not bring the car to Brooklands.  I just took it for a short spin this afternoon and found;

a) the front offside brakes stuck on, so the caliper needs to come off to free them,

b) some funny clonking noises from the rear that were not there last time I used the car.  Time to check over the suspension I think.

Nothing too serious  just need to find some time to address them.

I will be at Brooklands however if I am not happy I have got on top of the above I will bring the RX-8 instead.

Certainly do not want to stop on the M4/M25.

How\'s the kit car coming on Dave?

DaveCollins

Hi Nik,

Replica is coming along well.  Slow progress however ensuring that it is all done well.  Just waited 6 months to get a new CWP for the transmission from the US.  This is now off for a re-build and should be back shortly.  Once that is back the engine can be finally fitted and rear of the car completed.

Windscreen and proper Avon CR6ZZ tyres were recently fitted and the car is now looking much closer to being completed.

Next hurdle is the IVA test which should be done sometime over the Summer.  I just hope to get car on the road sometime before the Autumn so I can get it shaken down before Le Mans Classic in 2010.

Had a look at the RX-7 this morning and found that the issue with the brakes is that the piston is sticking in the caliper so that will need to come off to be rebuilt.  No obvious problems at the rear but I am wondering if the shocks are now a bit long in the tooth at 23 years old so I think I may take them off and check.

Anyone have any views on what are currently best OEM replacement shocks available?  Last time I bought some for my previous car I used KYB.

I will most likely put some details of my RCR Mk11 up once it is completed.

For those interested the spec is:

RCR MK11  ( see http://www.race-car-replicas.com/index.html )
Small Block Ford V8 331 ci, Edelbrock Pro-Flo2 EFI, approx 400bhp
ZF 5 DS25-2 Transaxle (strengthened type as used in BMW M1)

Car is being made as a replica of Ford MK11  P/1015 which was 2nd in the controversial 1966 Le Mans staged finish and driven by Ken Miles and Denny Hulme.

A couple of pictures of the of the original car at 2003 Goodwood FoS are attached.

Also I am aware of several people in the USA who are talking about building a RCR Superlite Coupe (SL-C) with rotary power.

Very nice Replica you have there, I have just been looking at there Web site there 917 is nice. I\'ve always wanted to build a Car (Would be fun) but a Replica of a real racer must take some real dedication/Attention to detail.

What are you planning when its done? are you going to show it or are you more focused in the building side of it?
