Hi guys,

I would appreciate some help formulating a procedure for trying starting an FDS3 which has not been used for about 14 months.

It has not been professionally stored, it\'s been outside under a car port non covered so has been exposed to the elements.   Prior to parking it up it was running fine although it needed a new battery.   It is quite heavily modified.

I\'m thinking of new battery, change petrol, check spark plugs/change possibly, then try turning it over.  I\'m not really sure what else I should consider so any help would be very welcome.

Thanks.

I\'ve started a car before which had a blow engine and had not been started for about 10 months and it started fine on one rotor.
Main thing depends on the health of the engine.

just done exactly the same this weekend in one i got that i lost interest in, to drain the fuel there is a 17mm nut under the tank, remove the fuel cap and it will let air in and the flow out quicker. i would change the plugs as you have said and would also squirt in some oil into the chaimbers to help with lubrication and compression. i would also change the oil and filter to,and the fuel filter befor/or after you got it running.another check is the coolent levels, once its started dont turn off untill its hot these cars dont really like being started and stopped to much,it may flood if so do a search for deflooding it just wont start if it gets flooded!
when it starts just let it idle or keep the revs up slightly but dont rev the t!ts off it.
once its running and that big worry is out the way i would also look at changing the brake fluids and make sure the brakes are all ok.

hope it goes well  for ya

don\'t worry if it spits out loads of smoke, mine decided to put up a fifteen foot smoke screen after being left for four months. as long as it runs clean after a couple of minutes it\'s fine.

As above, change fuel and plugs, squirt a bit oil into the engine through the plug holes to give it some lubrication prior to start up as all the oil has probably drained to low points due to gravity!

Clutch and brakes may be sticky but mine was all right after being abandoned for four months. Although, like jackaleks says don\'t worry about the smokescreen, apologise to neighbours in advance though!!

One more thing, have a look at the tyres - \'specially the bottoms as standing for so long in one place may have cracked them. Just a thought....

What I would do on the FB:- A bit of oil through the plug holes and turn the engine over by hand first. Then a quick spin over on the starter with no plugs in. Then, after plugs refitted, can you get \'Aerostart\' into the air intake easily on the FD like you can on the FB?  If so give it a blast from the Aerostart can and it should go first time.
