Hiya chaps

i have the front caliper tied up to the front spring at the mo whilst changing the discs

is this a good time to paint the caliper - or am i best bolting it back into place and then painting it ?

and any idea how long the paint takes to dry - as i dont want it hanging on the spring for another 2 days as this will just slow up the job :(

take it right off so you have full access to it, it may take a few coats to get it a nice deep colour

It\'s easier to paint off the disc for sure - as you absolutely don\'t want to contaminate the disc surface. I\'ve painted mine whilst still \'attached\' in the past, but it\'s not the easiest - best bet as said above is to take them right off the car and paint them - but you will want to stop the ends - or you\'ll be bleeding the brakes for sure !

Just make sure you mask off the piston(s) and the rubbers and bleed screw seats - don\'t want to be trying to get dry paint off those !

I\'ve just refurbed and repainted my rear calipers and changed discs - done in a weekend (mostly Saturday). I used Hammerite spray - it\'s tack dry and you can recoat in 15 mins. It\'s dry enough to work with in a couple of hours. It seems to last well enough and is way cheaper than \'caliper\' paint.

i will be powder coating some T11\'s for my first gen, also rebuilding them so im not worried about the rubbers etcs guess it just depends on what level you want to go to, i sand blasted mine using Archbish\'s little blaster (ta OJ) dirty job though and then i found the company big red they will blast and paint the calipers for a good price, i have a powder coating place 2 mins from home they did my old wheels for me and are only charging £20 for all 4 calipers :Thumbsup!

have you got an address for the powder coating place? that seems a very good price. I want to get quite a few things done so it would be worth the trip. Not much by me that does this sort of stuff.

i dont want to take them off - as that means bleeding the full system later

when i said off - there are not bolted on the car - just tied up to the front spring

so the problem that i saw is that its swinging around - hence the do i do it now - or bolt them back up so its not moving around soo much ??

to be honest - i might just paint them later on the car - at least i can concentrate on getting this discs changed this way

Just remember to remove the brake fluid from them before you paint them, else the paint amazingly comes off :Giggle

yip i would leave them unpainted until you can take them off completley, they would at least need to be pressure washed, there alloy as well and alloy if being painted really needs an etch primer to get a good hold of them. Most powder coaters can blast them for you.
