400Bhp FD

Can anyone describe what it is like driving a 400hp single turbo FD ? traction, acceleration, mpg, as im thinking of going down this road, with a GT35.

I know a 500hp single turbo is warp factor 9 mr sulu

Anything close to 400hp that isnt 4WD feels very very fast, i had a 380bhp Fiat Coupe 20vt for 4 years, it was seriously quick :o

400hp in a Rex is fast enough

400bhp FD is seriously quick,

usually wheel spin 1/2/3 and you have to watch the throttle in cornering as can catch you out plus in wet weather very twitchy !!!

A 400bhp FD is as quick as a 600bhp Skyline GTR :yes

Very quick but in such a smooth way on the GT35. Very deceiving on the GT3574 with the boost building slowly and just picking up forever !

I\'m just shy of 400bhp so looking for more boost !

Why did you ask about MPG lol my almost stock turbo II does 16mpg cruising and about 6mpg on boost lol hate to think what a larger turbo would do...well I will find out soon

On motorway cruising mpg is definately better than twins. You don\'t wander into boost the same way as the lower turbo on the twin setup.

Some tuners put a sweet spot in the map for cruising, could do with mine being a little higher on the rpm !

400bhp FD is very fun and fuel economy is bound to be rubbish ut its worth it for the thrill.  Getting the power down deepnds on lots of things, the power delviery of the turb(s), the tires you have, the weather etc

I first fitted a GT35/40 on my car some seven years ago and many people have agreed the following since,

The GT35 gives very linear power and set up properly you will find no discernible lag.

You will end up with a car that drives nicer than any twin turbo car and is not only very predictable over a twin turbo car but also becomes a very very quick road car.

Due to the power to weight ratio mentioned above you will need 2 or 3 hundred more horse power and a lot more money to make a Skyline or Supra perform as well in a straight line.

I ran 550 and 1600 injectors and like Shawn says running around off boost the car was actualy much better on MPG,

I have long advocated that going single with a good conservative state of tune will give a more reliable RX-7 than stock because of the many things that can give problems that are removed,

The Brunswick RX-7 that has just completed it\'s third 24 hour race bears good testimony to this, o\' yes and that uses a GT35/40 Turbo,

As a footnote I remember being at Brands and the owner of Brunswick told me before he drove the car how he was wary of the car because of all the story\'s he had heard about the back snapping out, I assured him that he would have a very predictable car,

His fears proved to be unfounded and three years on they are still racing the car  quite happily,
