Hi just wondering does anyones elses cruise control not work!
It might be me just not setting it right, the set light comes on but nothing happens!!

Any thoughts!??

greg

grinder

yeah mine works fine and has done in every FC

how are you activating it and what happens

on mine its a dual stage thing

1 - you need to activate the cruise
2 - then you need to press the button again to lock the speed

you should end up with 2 lights on the stalk

and then you can play silly - red line it in 3rd gear and set the cruise at that speed , let the car slow down to about 30mph and then click the stalk back to "resume" :D

the pedal just drops from your foot and its sets off like a bat of out hell :D

Umm!!
I pressed the red activate button and it lights up and then i press the set button in and i think set lights up. But then the speed drops!!
Will give it another go!
Only thing i can think other than me doin it wrong!! Could it be anything to do with this issue. when i take the key out of the ignition, i get a beep every 1 second! not sure what it indicates!!

Greg

grinder

hummm depends on what speed you are trying to set it

try it at 40-50mph

when you set it and remove your foot from the accelerator - will the speed just drop all the way to 0 MPH ??

im sure there is a cable in the engine bay that is to do with the cruise - i suppose you need to make sure that it hasnt snapped ( run parrallel with the accelerator one i think )

My cruise works fine. But i do know by design it only works at speeds above something like 40 or 50 as grinder said.

I activate it by pushing a button and "MAIN" will light up, then i just breifly hold the orange "SET" button and "CRUISE" will light up. DONT push and hold the set button, thats what my owners manual said. Maybe someone has knackered it by doing that?

Then its a simple case of rolling up a bifter :bandit while steering with both knees!:evillaugh

BTW, that last bit was a JOKE!

Several things you can do and are commonly at fault

There is a way to check the cruise with its built in test function but you do need to look at the workshop manual for that as its quite indepth.
Check your clutch switch works as that can disable it if its not working.
Check the cruise solonoid is working, I think you can just switch it on just by activating the push button and you should hear it motor a bit.
There is also the cruise ECU by the drivers side fuse box.

Thats all there is in the system and even a car without cruise fitted, by fitting the above you will have cruise control, wiring is already there. I\'ll take a good guess that the clutch switch does not work but you could check to see if it disables the AWS if yours has it when you start the car ie foot to the floor and it should disable the high revs when its cold. If you have a Fluke or some sort of digi volt meter then at least you can test the volts and resistances at the above items.

Mine works from speeds above 25mph iirc. Although the resume switch doesn\'t seem to work so you have to set it each time you brake.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Check the cable isn\'t lose, I found this on mine, worked much better now its tightened, when u open the bonnet, check the top left corner, its a black box, take the cover off (pinch the sides and pull off) You will see a cable attached to a 1/2 moon pulley, check its tight, if there is slack in the cable, tighten the cables up at the throttle body end :) I found that you have to take your foot off the throttle and then press \'set\' might need 2 do it twice if its slack (once to take the slack up and once to set it lol)

Cheers for the info lads, i will have a good route about! check the clutch pedal switch and solonoid as i can\'t hear anything moving!! it may just be that the cable is loose!! also i will check the c-c ECU might be something with that, come to think of it the beep comes from the right side of the footwell! she could even be telling me theres an issue.
I feel alot more conifident that it can be fixed "quite" easily, just need to find the problem part! And then i can get rolling on the move!! :D
i\'m only jokin\'!!

Will let u know the outcome!!

haha, i\'ve worked it out! it does work.
I needed to pressed the little round button and then when above 30 or so press the set button for few secs and it holds that speed!
coast and resume work fine to.
So it was all down to user error. Cheers for the info anyways, its always nice to get a better insight to how it works!

I don\'t think my cruise control works - the interface beween the wheel and chair keeps actuating the pedals :Giggle:Giggle
