my gauge raises to bang on halfway everytime, i suppose its not too bad as long as its not overheating.

you could always remove it and drop it into hot water to test it?

might be worth checking the whole cluster out if theres so many probs in there?

should be about half way and never move, the gauge isnt linear, it will read half way when the water temp is between about 70 and 110 degrees.   like and FD, when it moves your car has already overheated.

If its running cool, you fuel economy will also be effected as the ecu reads it and thinks its on cold start.  Its easy to change the stat, 3 bolts, well worth the £20 to change it.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

this is true - once it moves - its usually toooo late :( - althought mine has moved a few times - but i have just let it cool down and carried on - infact i drove back from santa pod with a bust rad one year - but keeping the car around the 60 mph mark and it was fine

the cab gauge moves sometimes - but thats when you are pushing it into the 3 figures :D

i had a after market gauge in mine - and you could see that move all over the place and the stock one just didnt move

hi,yeh i was just wondering if the guy that had the car before me had installed  racing stat or something because i know they open alot earlier to keep everything cool.
Also ive just ordered a 2nd hand cluster off some guy on ebay so ill see if that makes any difference.

pdtaylor18

Pretty much all of the TII\'s and I would imagine EGI\'s go to halfway, never seen one above or below. I would look at the thermostat for sure as stated by Antnicuk it will affect economy and performance if its running to cool. believe it or not but too cool is not good, not only will you not get good heat inside the car but if its still running too rich thinking its not reached opt temp then you will just be fouling the plugs all the time and might induce poor starting because of it.

thanks guys, yeah ive ordered a brand new stat from mr mazda and thought it was a great exscuse to change the cooling pipes for some nice shiny ones.
Was also thinking of installing an aftermarket temp gauge, can i still use the exsiting sender and lines to the new pod? sorry to be a pain lol, thanks

pdtaylor18

sure you can but most opt for a new sender unit along with the gauge. You can put this sender in the top hose in a suitable adapter. plenty on ebay.
