You may have seen some of my posts asking for help as I have difficulty starting, so i am going to do a compression test but not with a gauge but by listening to the \'psssts\'.

From what I have read and researched i need to

1/. Disconnect battery (safety reaosn so as not to short anything)
2/. Remove l1x lower spark plug (leading)
3/. Remoe EGi fuse to stop fuel being injected
4/. Reconnect battery
5/. Have someone turn over the engine and listen

I need to hear nice constant psst noises and no pssst pssst ......pssst pssst pauses in other words.

Have I missed anything?

i deflooded my engine (again!) today and could clearly hear the compression "psst!" with all plugs out and cranking the engine by hand. 25mm socket fits nicely onto the alternator and just use a ratchet spanner to crank it. this seems a little gentler than using the starter motor and pulling out fuses and relays.

edit: bonus in that you don\'t have to turn the car on.

0. Charge Battery or check it has plenty of life in it before starting the test.
2. Remove Front rotor lower spark plug (leading)
6. Replace plug and repeat but this time removing the rear spark plug (leading)

You need to make a mental note the volume and timing of the Pssh noises, the front and rear rotor should sound the same and each Pssh noise should be the same volume.

Note.. Some people like to remove the Intercooler elbow to get better access if you decide its needed be carfull not to damage the small vacuum tank that\'s fastened to the lower two fastenings.

Good Luck...

you can do it this way but its hard to gauge the spacing of the pssh noises, so in theory you may have a tip down and because you are not turning it smoothly and consistently you may still hear your Pssh noises but it will be hard to judge the timing (which is important between front and back rotors).

Plus as an upside, if it is flooded the more you turn it over with the plugs/EGI out the more fuel will be ejected from the bore.
