Quote from: spoddy;767008ok, so when you all say location does have an affect on price, is it down to the number of these cars per location? ie maybe not as big a interest in scotland, smaller number of cars and they sold them more england, larger number? you\'d think exculsive cars would make more though but maybe its the interest in them.

when you say you know guys who wouldn\'t travel to scotland to buy the car, was it the transport costs in getting it back to where they lived which put them off, as i am talking more about the value of the car itself.

this isn\'t the correct thread to talk about fb prices i suppose, as there is the one about fb\'s still running which lists fb\'s that are for sale, so i\'ll not continue in here and disrupt steve\'s posts, sorry steve :)

i am new to fb\'s and get various opinions on how much to spend on one, but your knowledge of fb\'s is great to have and a good guide as to how much you should pay and have in reserve to restore the car to the way you want it.

my grandfather said you\'ll never have money in your pocket when you have a car, that was a good 30 or more years ago and it hasn\'t changed today. the good thing is that you\'ll have put her back with new parts which will last you years and years, just like having a new car again.

can\'t wait for the vids to hear her and see you smoke up those rear tyres lol.

the Rx7 has always been a niche car and there probably isn\'t the demand in Scotland for the cars to achieve the prices they do further south. There have been some cracking fb\'s for sale north of the border over the last 2 years.... a series 3 in Aberdeen was gorgeous... but it stuck for months and months and the price kept coming down.
The buyer of the Edinburgh silver S2, by his own admission, took a chance and got the train up with a view to buy the car and drive it back. This trip could have been a complete waste of time and money but luckily for James, the car was bang on the money, he did the deal at a bargain price, had a great drive home and has had a right result but it could easily have gone the other way for him and been a disaster.

The best ( and probably only) way to get a handle on 1st gen prices and availability is to study this thread and look at all the cars offered for sale, the locations, initial asking prices, final sale prices, how long they took to sell and the comments of the members of the forum, who are very clued up about 1st gen prices
Practically every 1st gen offered for sale over the last 2 years is documented within this thread.

Restoration cost vary enormously depending upon your expectations, condition of the project, budget, skill level, facilities, available time...etc etc.
Steve\'s fortunate in that he\'s able to dedicate a lot of time to his project..... and has the skill and knowledge to carry it out.
The amount of work he\'s done to his car would take many people much, much longer and maybe cost a lot more if they had to pay a welder.

A rolling restoration with a current mot can also be a good way to get into RX7 ownership on a budget but it can soon become a full blown \'off the road\' project when you start to do a simple job and it just escalates.

If you\'re not worried about travelling to buy a nice fb, check this one out...

it looks a very nice car and I\'d imagine the market for fb\'s is smaller there than in Scotland!

i won\'t be looking at her as i might be getting one more local to me and will read through that thread like you say its a good indication of people\'s experiences. if prices have not changed much over the years then i\'ll have an idea of what i should be spending.

i suppose i am just worrying about buying a car and having to finish it and there are on the road models out there for the same money. but the only way is to keep an eye on that thread and see what comes up. :)

What is the goes with this one? Seems tidy...maybe worth a look see?

it\'s an ex owners club car, cherished by the owner, ended up at RX Motors and Tim stuck it on the bay last November... Unwelded original car but had some sill rot... since then it\'s been mot\'d so someones put a torch near it and it\'s been for sale on and off all year.
Here\'s the thread when it first surfaced at RX Motors last year...

 Ebay 12/10
1984 MAZDA RX7 FB SILVER (#220702225660)      500 GBP

David Nock (RIP)

Yep, that\'s about it on the recent history.

It used to belong to a guy in the old RX7 club and was spotted in the old club mag in 2002. Miles was134k then but the engine had a rebuild some time before.

At Brooklands 2003 but then unlicensed from 2004 \'till it surfaced with Tim at RX Motors in 2010. Tim said \'back end sill rot\'....(he always seems to describe \'em honest doesn\'t he).
Sold @ £500, then sold and resold again in quick succession. Prices varied enormously, ranging from £520 to £1195.....take your pick.

So it seems to be an honest MOT\'d runner now? welded up we hope. But why\'d it move about so quick.....quick profit merchants?

Note: Was taxed to end of this month

Quote from: David Nock;763072Hi Scott, Greetings mate.

Yeh you have to know when to call it a day with cars. I think Mushy passed that day some time back.

Thanks for looking in. Stay around if you\'ve plans for the Silver wizzbomb....plenty of free help and advice on here.

Dave

Hi, Quick update, crawled all over the grey FB today beginning to prep it for the track and found the plates in the boot. I know I gave you the Vin a few weeks ago but the reg is LUR 88V, don\'t know if its in your records anywhere. Looks like it may have come from the Dorset area from a few little clues I found under the seats etc like a opticians appointment card in Bournemouth.

R.E Mushy pea, just about reached the end of the road no engine or box, front bed or struts, no rear hubs or prop and I stood in the passenger foot well yesterday and fell through to the ground! Time to say your last good byes I think!

Scott

David Nock (RIP)

Great!.....thanks for the follow up Scott.
UR was a Luton plate......LUR 88V is shown as 1st Reg 08/02/1980 and unlicensed since 1992......Nothing on it Previously.

Maybe owner left Luton, ended up in Bournemouth, thinks \'Blimey, I need an Optician\'?:....:rollin

Final salute to Mushy.....Bye, Bye Pea......:WaveBye

Glad this thread is here so I can research the cars up for grabs...VERY USEFUL!!!!

Cheers
