Quote from: Casey;744683When we eventually get a car, I suspect we are going to need a lot of help from you 1st Gen guys who\'ve trodden the path before us. Being as all the RPM are RX-8 owners, a 1st Gen isn\'t going to be too familiar to us! Happy to learn along the way - probably the hard way :Hammer

Working on a 1st gen is about as hard as a Lego/Mechano (generation dependent!) set. It really is very easy to understand compared to anything modern like an RX-8.

I mean I thought my mx5 was fairly simple mechanically, but the 1st gen makes it feel fairly complex!
1984 Rx7: Gold. Edging towards roadworthyness!

Ahhhh, memories......I was of the generation that was brought up on Mechano, then moved on to Lego, probably when it first came to the UK! I then started wearing long trousers :Laugh

I should be OK then :)

2.9v6 ford lump,hmmm.
Reminds me of that white fb for sale with a bonnet bulge with the BMW engine fitted.

That white S1 from RX motors must have sold,it\'s not on their site, rotechniks still has their white S1 for sale.

Poor thing, to have the heart of a Ford :(

Don\'t let the ford old skool boys hear you say that!
Was,nt the 2.9v6 used in granada & sierras.
Should imagine it\'s a very heavy engine.

Ian65

no tax, no test, tatty bodywork, wrong engine....... £500   mmmmmm

syebba

Why did\'nt they just put in another 2nd hand 12A engine,less work,hassle & cost & better resale?Or a 13b!

syebba

Unfortunately me thinks it\'ll end up as a spares car..

yeah, it\'s an increased stoke  version of the old Cologne V6....
A real heavy cast iron, push rod monster with cast iron heads...
I\'ve rebuilt a couple of them... back in the day... antiquated old junk

syebba

Cast iron heads too,hmmm.
I had a 3ltr essex lump in a mk1 crapri,cast iron everything,weighed a ton,good for a tractor engine i should imagine.
Heads always used to warp on those essex 3ltr lumps.

syebba

I thought u loved capri\'s Ian?
Or you had enough of them!

Ian65

the 2.8i cologne replaced the V6 Essex in the Capri when the Essex could no longer meet emission requirements.
Alright in a Capri but in a 1st gen RX7.... daft idea!

syebba

Well lets face it,the capri was not a fine handling car with 50/50 weight distribution!
The essex lump i had in my mk1 was bored out to 3.2 litres by specialised engines in essex, made a slight improvement to acceleration, but the car still handled crap, brake fade on front, front nose diving, rear end snappy, tramlining on uneven surfaces!
G8 in a straight line, but on the twisty bits you\'ll be uprooting hedges!

The Fb is made for twisty roads & is much better for protecting our endangered hedgerows.
