Quote from: spoddy;779069john barnes...now there was a legend of a footballer and ian st john too, liverpool fc greats. wow that is interesting, the wirral is a nice place isn\'t it. if you bump into them or rafa say hello for me ;)

i suppose it sounds more complicated than it is and its just a case of patience and not rushing through it all. i have smallish hands so if i get my fb and decide to change the interior i should be able to do the job.

i\'ll check out the thread mate.

thanks for the help

Seen John Barnes a lot and he\'s a real nice guy, he always waves to kids and speaks to you (not that I have spoken to him) but yes this area is a very nice - we like it as do a lot of other families.

The thread I\'ve added a post to it tonight to bring it forward, I hope you can make sense of it and yes it sounds more complicated than it is but as you say, don\'t rush it :Nono!.

Don\'t really know if he still has one here but there\'s plenty of room for him and his money too - a lot of properties around here are rediculously priced (I wouldn\'t be able to afford a garage at some of the houses)

Quote from: captainbizzaro;779030Hey Dave, my eldest lad was in Bournemouth at a friends house and off the trampoline spotted two 7\'s in next doors garage. He\'s got a good eye that boy. Anyway, we went round to have a nose, owned by an elderly fella who\'s had them both for 15 years-not been MOT\'d for 10. Spotless, the both of them.

The white one isn\'t an Elford, he just replaced the spoiler, but literally apart from that 100% original. Don\'t know if you have them already but he gave permission to add them anyway as he doesn\'t have a computer.

Must be nice to be able to keep a couple of classic fb\'s in a garage for 10 years plus without batting an eyelid but ooh what a waste :InLove

there is a man who lives near my town and he has an old ford cortina and one of those older citreon bx cars outside his house rotting away, but won\'t get them trailered to the scrap yard. they make his house an eye sore and i think the family cannot get him to scrap them. cortina rear glass broken rain etc getting in, awful. moral is some people get so attached to cars they cannot let them go, on the road or not. this man has kept these like the first day so someone lucky will inherit them.

bit off thread sorry, but yes rafa has his house in the wirral. his wife loves the area and after the inter milan job she wanted back, put their kids back in school. she wanted him to take a break after the liverpool/inter jobs. he has been offered coaching roles back in spain etc but prefers to live in liverpool.
he made more money than most managers with redundancies lol.

that elford turbo looks lovely. i wonder what she is like underneath and how well the turbo/engine have stuck it over the years?

here\'s a thread from when this car was put up for sale earlier in the year...

http://www.rx7fb.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58&start=10

looks like it\'s had a JDM 12at engine in it...... that would put me off it personally.... although it probably wouldn\'t bother others

spoddy

so it sold a few months back and is now back for sale?
the ad says due to illness, has anyone enquired about it, ie are the rust areas sorted and is the engine ok? after reading about turning the psi down on the original thread i would be a bit anxious about the engine. turbo\'d rotaries don\'t last as long as n/a ones.

Ian65

the condition of the shell / bodywork is the most important thing.... 12a engines are ten a penny and easy to swap

how do you start a flooded one? just incase i find another fb to go see and its not starting? on the rx8 i pull the fuel pump fuse, clutch in no gas pedal, turn her over for up to 10 secs. she would catch for a bit, smoke. i put the fuse in, you hear the fuel pump, repeat starting procedure and after doing this for a while, eventually she fires up, rough then smoothes out.
i got her to run for about 15 secs with no fuel being pumped in cause fuse was out to burn off the fuel, then when fuse back in she eventually started. it took me a few hours as never flooded before, it was the extreme winter as couldn\'t drive her in the snow, battery went down and she flooded. but i eventually got the fuse out/in procedure working. the press gas pedal fully down to cut off the fuel pump didn\'t work.

so whats the fb way?

Most old cars with a manual choke could flood easily.

The cure is to GENTLY floor the accelerator pedal, (Gently so that you don\'t bring in the accelerator pump if you can help it).
Then with ignition on, just crank the engine over and over for about ?? 10 seconds or so like you say Spod. It might cough and splutter during this time which means it\'s clearing the over-rich mix out of the cylinders.
Then when you\'ve done this a couple of times, give it about half choke and try to start again.

If it still won\'t go, whip plugs out - easy on FB - and into an oven or gas hob replace plugs as hot as possible, but don\'t overtighten because of alloy block (13 ft lb).
If an engine been standing for months or something like that, then use a squirt of \'Aerostart\' straight down the carb (Again easy on FB non-turbo). Then try to start normally on half choke.

If it\'s been standing years you should go through a lubrication process first - turning over without the rotor arm to circulate the oil.
