I often thought that the 1st gen would look good as a convertible...

Seems I was wrong.

Quote from: David Nock;646340About 40% to 50% of those numbers are SORNED or unlicenced at DVLA, therefore only about half are running on the roads/on track at the present time.

That\'s surprised me.
Even if you allow for the cars that are owned but not on the list, the numbers are very low.

Shouldn\'t we be seeing a corresponding rise in values in view of their scarcity?

No wonder you never see any on the roads anymore.

Thanks for the excel file by the way David!

Theres heaps of those in Australia. They were made by a company that imported them, and then cut the tops off. Some look good.

Back in 81/82 a company in the California converted the ser 2 gen 1 they were called Pacific Avatar and the car Avatar 82 it had a 13B in it and a top speed of 167mph, cost $45000, a freind working in the states at the time sent me details of it, which I still have, and this was a very good looking car. I dont have a scanner so I can not post them on here.

You may think that.....I couldn\'t possibly comment.

Anyway, I\'ve moved it to the pile of potential spares cars, I think the individual parts are now more valuable and I doubt it will be roadgoing again. Com\'on someone, I\'m dying to be proved wrong.

when you say my reg has driven you crazy how long have you had it with out a reg?

David Nock (RIP)

List Sent. Hope it\'s of interest.
Your car has been about half way down on my list (of Registered Numbers not of locations) for quite a long time..don\'t really know how long, probably since I first saw your resto post. (Did you start that in 2008)?
Anyway, as I skimmed down the list there was always a gap in the Series 3 Registrations where yours would have gone. I like to have things complete so I kept staring at this gap wondering \'How to complete this line\'. Then you posted on MRC out of the blue to tell me.
So thanks again.

Yes, thanks, all entered up now.
To me the KL suffix on EKL is interesting.. there\'s a whole cluster of Series 3 1st Gens that use that suffix, as in BKL, CKL, EKL. Thats saying that all these cars probably came out of the same dealers in the Maidstone area around the autumn of 1985. (There\'s also some UKL Series 2\'s from a few years before).
Another cluster comes from the KP suffix, where 5 No. \'DKP\' Series 3 1st Gens were registered on the same day in November 1985, also in the Maidstone area, probably the same dealer as the KL\'s. Any body know who?

David, Mazda UK used to be in Tunbridge Wells, and that comes under the Maidstone reg area, also at that time not all dealers were rotary dealers.

Ah, that\'s very likely then. I was going to say that some dealer must have had quite good bonuses in 1985!
Maybe the 5 DKP\'s were company cars!

They could have also been the final batch of gen 1\'s from Japan, as about that time they started to build the gen 2. I know some were reg\'d in 86 but I think these had been standing around for a while.

Ian65

The early press cars, FKN 310V, FKJ 414V, FKJ 417V, FKJ 418V also had Kent number codes I believe, seemingly having been registered by Mazda UK when they arrived in the UK.

I wonder if any of them survive?

A7RXY

I remember one of them being green, I think it was FKN.
