Quote from: syebba;730088There\'s a lot being scrapped, despite there being not that many left,i think under 280 in total, dave posts up his findings every few months or so.

And on that note I now have a revised location AND COLOUR list.

I\'m not one to take in anyone else\'s ideas if I can help it (unless I can pretend they\'re my own) but the colour fill boxes against the locations was Cliff\'s idea. It\'s so good I took it as my own straight away.

Excel as usual which I have to e mail the file \'cos excel doesn\'t appear to uplink to the forum...why is that? Is it because I use Apple and .xls files? That file format is industry standard ain\'t it?

Anyway please drop me a mail to the usual dgnock at btopenworld dot com (or say yes on here if you think I\'ve got your mail address),and I\'ll send you a beautiful location list with colours on\'t.

Dave.

Dave.

You have posted .doc files before? Have you tried .zip?

If it is simply the file extension being a pain, simply rename the .xls extension to .doc and people who download it direct from the page can simply rename it back.

Voila :)

David Nock (RIP)

Right then, I\'ve renamed as .doc

So anyone downloading needs to rename it back to .xls

See if it works. Please let me know.

who\'s the wiring geniuses on the forum my temp gauge is not working i have looked at  other 1st gen\'s and i see power runs to the temp sender switch now on my car i have no power simple you may all say run power direct to sensor  and make the circuit that way  tried that still does not work  now iam beginning to think with the rat s nest removed have i broke the circuit or is the temp gauge combined with cold start and other things to do with original carb set up failing this it\'s looking like dash out gary

Working as well as possible from the ratty diagrams in Haynes,

There does seem to be a voltage regulator device in the dashboard. The fuel guage shares the same regulator. So if fuel guage works the regulator bit should be OK.

From the water temp guage the wiring goes straight to the sensor, nothing else in the circuit, through 2 connectors, X05 (which I think is a big dashboard connector, unlikely to give trouble), and also through connector X01, (which is the one lying on the inner wing in the dipstick area). That connector sometimes gives trouble.

I can\'t find a test for the sensor itself. Substitution ?

Hopefully it won\'t come to removing the dashboard but if it is rquired, here is a link to thread on the very subject:-

Funny u should say petrol guage no working as well and my oil pressure  gauge sits full of the clock!!!!!!where is this voltage regulator  located gary

David Nock (RIP)

On the circuit diagram it\'s shown within the instrument panel Gary.

This is the rear view of a Series 3 instrument panel....one pic just shows the connector blocks extra.

As you know the temp gauge etc is opposite end to the Speedo and the speedo drive can be seen on the left of these pics. So the voltage regulator should be somewhere in the foreground, but I can\'t pick up which component it is.

That thing with 2 holes might be the buzzer, there\'s two other components on there that look possible candidates but they\'re not near the guage end.

I\'ll pull the dash out into the light over the weekend.

But the oil pressure gauge, although in the regulator part of the circuit isn\'t fed from it.

I wonder if the V regulator isn\'t just an electronic choke of some sort, to damp the water temp and fuel gauge needles? That\'s all that\'s connected to it.

To do an easy check before pulling the dash Gary, I would take the panel off back of the rear wheel, pull off the fuel guage connector and short it out. Does the fuel needle rise steadily up to full? If so forget the voltage regulator, that just means your tank guage is bust - many of them are, mine included.

Then you\'re back to the connectors underbonnet. Assuming that no ones seriously buggered up the wiring behind the dash at some time, that\'s the last place I\'d go to. The dash and gauges on the dash seem very robust to me.
