apologies for my ignorance, but since i signed up on fduk yesterday and it asks "do you know which model of 3rd gen you have" it has been bugging the hell out of me. how can i find out for sure what I have? there seems to be a lot of conflicting info about.

its got 16bit ecu
suede like front seats
rear "seats"
no sunroof
jap import
non bose
not sure about oil coolers...

what would be an obvious indicator of what version of fd3s this is?

Kieron

What age? Most were the Type R twin coolers rear seats and no sunroof. early ones anyway.

TTMan

its a 1996 car. forgot to mention its manual if that rules some models out?

dthebuk

i "think" that means its either an RZ, RB or RS

and i don\'t "think" the RZ had rear seats :D

"think" being the key word here

according to this http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html (which i had been looking for for ages!!) you are right so i guess it has to be either an RB or RS. what constitutes big brakes lol? i guess i would know if i had them

fil_auto

I think the RS had 315 mm discs.... that\'s one way of telling.... am sure some RS owners will be on soon and assist you though....

Going back to the sticker on the door frame - do you not have one? Like this:
AS you can see mines a Type RB

you will need to measure the disc diameter think they are about 35mm bigger not sure but 295std and 330upgraded rings a bell! (don\'t quote me on this though!)

TTMan

ok thanks i am getting my ms-01s refurbed n sprayed next weekend so will measure them then :)

the only sticker i have inside my doors is this

tyre stuff isnt it?

fil_auto

yes indeed it is tyre pressure info.....

that\'ll be a perfect time to measure yer discs....

not sure how you can try and figure out your spec / model then?

Am sure some peeps here will be able to help.....:Thumbsup!

TTMan

fil_auto

Then click on Release Date down the left handside....

enter your Vin (FD3S XXXXXX)... in the box provided - drop the box down and select Mazda.... then click the button directly below it......  that will give you / confirm the year of production / manufacture, then go to the below and perhaps figure out which you have?! #;o)

Timmy

Probably a type r as most are, you could add seude seats as an optiona extra anyway.
If it has bigger breaks than you might be looking at an RS, easiest way to tell is the back discs are the same size as the front.
