As the title sugests :Laugh

Im new to the fd market and looking at getting some more gauges, mainly boost, oil temp, volt and fuel pressure.

Just wundering how people have mounted them, if they obstruct their visibitly and how easy it is to install them for a diy mechanic.

Ive no real idea, only installed a tacho on my old car.

mine:

easy to wire in, but hard to install due to custom dash and so on...

best thing to do is get a apexi power fc and commander, one of the best mods you can do to a FD, the power fc is a complete ecu replacement and all the tuners in this country can map it, its by far the most common on FD\'s.  Means you can get your car mapped to get a little extra power and also will support any mods you have or will do in the future.  Will make the car run better then the standard ecu as you can have it mapped for UK fuel.  The commander plugs into the power fc and can be used for basic map changes and also has a nice screen which can display, engine temp, water temp, boost, knock, injector duty and loads of others, also will show the peak which is useful.

They do cost around £4-500 but well worth the money and you wont have the hassle of trying to fit gauges and wiring them in etc.

I agree 100% with sweetiewells, all you need to display in one little box, especially good as gives acurate water temperature instead of the mazda gauge, which tells you when the engine is cold, when it\'s normal or when it\'s fcuk\'d!!  Utter useless!!!  Also you can remove the commander so its not on display for theiving eyes to see.

here is my custom made effort:

bit of a fiddle to run the wires, but other than that it\'s easy enough! & they can take 52mm & 60mm gauges!

The Commander on the Power FC is undeniably useful, as Sweetiewells says, but if you have it set displaying too many parameters at one time, it can be confusing to try to read at a glance. That\'s why I also have old-skool analogue needle gauges because, unlike numerical values as per the Commander, you can look at the needle and in a split second, see not only the value that it\'s displaying, but what direction that value is moving in (which is the reason they still use gauges in planes, btw).

So, I\'ve got boost on the steering column, and oil temp and pressure and water temperature in a pod mounted where the centre speaker used to be. Fitting a water temp gauge is essential if you do nothing else, the stock one only moves from "Normal" to tell you that you just overheated and blew your engine up!

I too like the Commander for the PFC and will be getting one for my car one day.
At the mo i\'ve got 3 defi gauges down under the stereo. They are good but they\'re not it the best place i feel and would prefer to have them up on the dash where the center speaker is.
Not the best picture but you can see what i mean :D

wow cheers guys. I will have to try n save my pennies up for a apexi power fc and commander but i will still get some dials.
So wheres the best place to get the apexi power fc and commander fitted and mapped for southner (Reading) not sure if rotechniks is still going.

ReWorks will do it no problems. :D
Is where i had my last one fitted and mapped. You can get the PFC from most tuners or try the venders at the top or even eBay :)

Frost - There are quite a few tuners on here with different members swearing by different tuners, best is to find the nearest to you.  Im not sure who that would be as im not over your way, i personally go to rxmotors down in blandford forum, not too far from salisbury.

i think hayward rotary wouldnt be too far from you but i might be wrong, they are near Newbury :Thumbs-up
