Very rough, lumpy idle... vac reading is twitching on the boost gauge.

sounds like a V8... Runs OK above 2.5krpm...
Are there any obvious pipes or vac lines I need to check first?

Off to Super7 this afternoon...

Might have a few bits of sale soon, if my suspicions are correct

Usual one is the map sensor vac line by the bulkhead/ tb area. You\'re probably right though if it\'s shaking around a lot at idle with the twitchy vac reading :(

Thought as much...

If it has gone, then I\'m calling it a day... its been fun and all, but I\'ve ploughed too much money into this car to keep on ploughing more in...

Would love to have dropped a big single tubby in there and seen some good power, but spent most of my time fixing what was already there  :(:2Mad

Gutted for you if it\'s a tip, dude. :( I know that car\'s been into you for a few quid already. Hope it\'s not too catastrophic...

RedRummy

Well, went to see Jason today, and yeah, thrown a tip... just the one though and its likely to still be in place, so hasn\'t been spat out yet...

However, I\'m not going to fix it, its had too much money out of me over the last couple of years and I basically don\'t have the money to put it right...

Luckily, Jason knows just how much has been done to it recently, and the amount of cash I\'ve spent on it, cos he\'s done all the work, so he agreed to take it off my hands..

Just bought myself a little run around too, so I can save some cash over the next few months...

Gutted though.

That\'s sick, mate, and not in a good way. I really feel for you on that one, i know your car\'s been in there just about every time mine has. Which is a lot. Makes it especially sickening just when it should finally be all up together.

Any idea what caused it to commit suicide? Or was it just out of the blue?

pdtaylor18

Sorry for you mate, not a nice way to get rid of the car, its the one reason why I went to 2nd Gens as they last so much longer and you still get the thrills just the same.

No, no warning at all, no even a noise when it happened, just noticed the rough idle when pulling up to a roundabout.

Happened when putting some space between me and a porsche...  :Giggle

I\'d love to get another one, but gonna give it a while and get a good strong car to base it from. I spent most of my time fixing someone elses fun with this car :(

At least it died in a good cause, embarasing a car with a two and a half litre greater displacement and a 90k+ bigger price tag! :D Glad to hear you\'re not leaving the rotary cause altogether, dude...

Did J say whether he was gonna rebuild it or break it up? Rebuild, knowing him, he hates seeing even one RX go off the road for ever.

pdtaylor18

Shame we cant get our heads together and do the rebuilds in a weekend.  I would gladly bring my bare block to someone to get it rebuild professionally (but in someones garage ) I know the gasket and seal sets are the main money pit but they can be sourced from the States or Japan and even within the UK they are not too badly priced. There is plenty of knowledge and expertise on this forum without going to the highstreet builders to get it done.  At the rate these cars are blowing and getting scrapped they will have to choose another line of revenue because with the finances the way they are people will take the easy route........scrapping.  Its a crying shame as they should only be scrapped if they are rotten and beyond repair but for some people its the only way out and totally understandable.
As much as I\'m dead against a non rotary transplant in a rotary car its also one option even I have said I will do so the car does not have to be broken up.  We just need the costs of rebuilds to come down or as most are doing the ....DIY route.  I have no probs with doing that as I have rebuilt aero engines so the engineering is not a problem.

As a matter of interest what are the bare basic costs of a DIY rebuild these days??
I\'ve seen some of the full seal kits go for about £600, how much are housings now that the exchange rates are all so not in our favour?

Im a car mechanic who bought a cd manual then a car and done it all myself, its alot to take in at 1st on a 3rd gen but if you are mechanically minded and patiant its do able, the biggest cost is tools if you dont have them and space,as you say parts are dear.
i went pineapple racing full gen kit for 700 quid though i did get stung 130 v.a.t,that included heavy duty seals and bearings.

give it a go its a great sense of acheivement and gives you confidence in driving it again.:Thumbsup!
