ya wanna use rope to relocate lol!

p.s. what fuse rating are you using in that 4awg mate? its not usually recommended fusing there due to the amount of amps you pull when turning the car over from say cold for example. it will pop 100 easily.... sometimes even a 150.

karl_tate

i will be relocating mine in the very near future so where is the best place to fuse??

Straight after the battery terminal.

I use that size Rope for the grounding cable, 0AWG !

lol all about 0awg!

i was told to not fuse by my work (in car audio/security specialist) however i thought no harm really so used a fuse battery terminal and put a 300amp in there so shouldnt blow when turning over.

SiH

I run 140a and have done on this car and the last one - never tripped a circuit breaker or popped a fuse. :)
300a is OTT and compomising protection imo :)

Thats crazy. If the cable works loose and connects the body the battery will explode. It would weld the cable to the body of the car !

well only reason i say that is because the starter can pull in excess of 200amps on a cold day etc. I have popped 100 and 150 on a random morning

Well first off, if the right connectors were used on the power cable (for e.g. non slip SMC connectors) inside the terminal and done properly it shouldnt work itself loose. Plus i dont have anything metal in the boot anyways. its all MDF and carpet where its been remade. The only reason i have a fuse on the terminal at all is under the unlikely event that something cuts thru the carpet and into the power cable shorting it. but this is very unlucky.

Best thing to do is what I have opted for..... a 140amp braker!! coz if it pops you don\'t have to go hunting for another fuse!! just flick the switch!! I\'ve started mine in -1 mornings & never had any issue with it tripping as yet & it\'s been in the boot for over a year now!

that sounds like a plan jono, brakers FTW :D

Yep, but the biggest issue is vibration cutting into the cable under the floor if the wire is rubbing against any thing. The positive side on my setup is 2x 4awg and it uses 2 fuses. Just keep plenty of them in the car :Giggle

Just being overly caution since my battery can cold crank 1500amps and if it is shorted can easily explod. Joys of a pure lead sealed battery !
