Hi,

Got stopped by the police this morning and got told to change my number plates...:Nono!
Truoble is, the standard legal plates won\'t fit on my 99 spec front bumper (same the back)

My current number plate is the longest it could be - 7 full size characters - has anyone re-registered their car with a plate with only 1 number, and squashed the space in between (5 characters)?

here are my current plates

Looks like the Fulking-Poynings road, you been visiting Jason again, dude?

They probably don\'t like the fact all the digits are in one line, but not the standard size and spacing. I\'ve had loads of grief about that on bikes before. Even if you use non-legal size letters, for some reason the Babylon seem to prefer it when they\'re in two rows.

With that said, you\'re entitled to legally use a plate of smaller size and lettering if the car\'s an import with no report and there\'s no provision on the bodywork to display a plate of the standard regulation size IIRC

looking at your plate in the pics those characters do not look full size to me. they are ranged left not centered therefore not as big as they could be. also is the font the correct one is it a heavy font? (thicker) as it looks a little thin like a medium/light font to me.

its the mixture of all these things that make it look odd even though in reality its prob not that different from a standard plate.

yeah, he even got his ruler out to measure up - its the size and spacing of the lettering - way too small apparently.

Thats what I tried to argue, but there is no such provision apparently.. never has been... even if the bumper won\'t fit the plate.
He was a sergeant (or whatever) with the white hat, so he wasn\'t having any of it :)

There is no dispensation for import cars, at least not normal PLG cars.
He said if it doens\'t fit the bumper, tough titty... (or words to that effect ;) )

Mihgt buy a new plate with only 1 number, then squash the spacing, which he seemed ok with.

trouble is, a new plate from DVLA costs about £250 all in (re-registering, a making plates up, includes admin fees)

Sounds like you got a complete wnaker, sorry, onanist of a copper, mate. He\'s obviously handy with the ruler from measuring his utterly inadequate penis in the hope it\'s grown to even average length. What an prick!

Did he issue a Vehicle Rectification Notice? If not, I\'d just ignore the c*** and leave it as it is. I\'ve done that a few times and never been stopped by the same Plod twice. Only ever once had a Rectification Notice issued

Yeah, for a minute I thought he was gonna get under the car and start checking it out.

I got a Vehicle Defect Notification, need to get it sorted, take it to MOT station, get the VDN stamped and send it off... in 14days!!

:Grrr

Bast@rd! I guess the MOT tester may be more sympathetic than Mr maggot-c0cked Plod, though? When I got the VDN on my bike, I just took it to my local bike shop, where I\'ve been a loyal customer for like 15 years. The tester just said, "well, you\'ve got a legal one at home, haven\'t you? That\'s good enough for me" and stamped the ticket. Mind you, the number plate on that bike was ridiculous, it was about the size of a fag-packet.

I\'d go and see the MOT tester, mate, and see what he reckons before throwin money away changing stuff that may not need changing

RedRummy

it was an unmarked car, and i\'ve seen that one round here quite a lot (up and down the M23 - silver 3 series beemer)

knowing my luck I\'ll get pulled again with the same bloke and get done again.
