Hello,

After running my new RX7 for a couple of weeks i have done a fuel consumption check and the results were staggering to say the least.

I knew it wasn\'t going to be good but 13mpg is crazy.

I have been getting a rushing of air noise under the bonnet, the type you would expect to hear with large air filters. This i thought was strange as the engine is totaly stock.

I also get popping from the exhaust on a regular basis.

I contacted my local Rotary specialist RE:Works who suggested that the given symptoms point towards a possible inlet manifold gasket failure.

This would make sense as a massive air leak would cause poor fuel consumption.

Has anyone had simular issues? Can anyone advise if this is likely to be the problem or if it could be anything else?

I am aware of the fact that to replace this gasket it\'s a turbo\'s off job which is expensive and time consuming.

Any recomendations?

Thanks in advance everyone!

More likely to be a split in the pipes that goes into and out of the intercooler. Good Idea to take them off and check for rips or splits.

Ok i\'ll check this out also. Any ideas on the best way to attack this sort of work? I am realy struggling to find a workshop manual for 97\' RX7

Depends. If its the upper gasket then all the work could be easily done outside. If its the lower one then it could potentially be a big job, especially if its still got stock twins.

All the maunals on your post only go up to 94\'. I have a 1997 and i have been told there are some significant differences, such as the 16 bit ECU over the 8, Anti Roll Bar etc.

Depends on what information you need really.

They all have antiroll bars, I never even used the manual when I removed mine for the Racing beat upgrade.

The ECU plug is different but unless you really want to rewire the car would you actually use it ?

After all its only for reference !

I get around 13 mpg?? Standard twins on

If your on a stock setup then that can be about right. Depends on how you drive it really. They don\'t need too much asking for the loud pedal to be used :Giggle

What jobs are you needing the manual for ??

If your inlet manifold is on its way out (Happened to mine) then mine decided to hunt (revs go up and down) widly. The larger the \'hole\' in the gasket allowing air in the wider the rev band would be. It ranged from 700 - 1800rpm even when warm.
